I don’t know what to make of this movie. Not nearly as clever as Shaun of The Dead, and not nearly as hokey as the old “Return of…” movies, Zombieland is all adrenaline and a singular joke stretched out for 70+ minutes. Take 4 characters, make them the guys that know the rules and have smartly survived the zombie apocalypse, force them together, and get them to do dumb shit. I would’ve totally lost interest in the movie if it wasn’t for the VERY cool opening sequence (think Watchmen), and the surprise cameo (which I’m sure has been spoiled elsewhere). You see his demise coming as soon as they introduce him.
Funny in spurts, with an insufficient balance between horror and comedy, the movie really begs the question, “how much do you enjoy watching Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg?” if your answer isn’t, “A LOT”, then the movie might push a few chuckles out of you. It’s probably not worth seeing twice. If movies that are aware of convention are your bag, then I’d recommend Zombie Land, but usually that sense of awareness and ‘cinema indulgence’ comes with a bit of intelligent wink-wink, nod-nod. Zombieland stares at us blankly, as if to say to us, the geek, “You know what I’m saying, right?”.
People claiming that this is a cult hit, might be hailing it a little prematurely, but I can think of worse ways to kill time. Rental only.

Do you need to see “Adventureland” first to understand the plot? (I stole that joke)
