Japanese video game magazine Famitsu, reported this weekend that after 3 years, the Microsoft Xbox 360 Video Game Console has reached 1,001,191 units in Unit Sales. The Xbox 360 was officially released in Japan on December 10, 2005 release. The console has seen a spike in sales in September 2008 following the announcement of a price adjustment bringing their lowest configuration Arcade System to an appealing price of $199.

Microsoft has also seen the Japanese gaming community show interest in their video game console by securing a few Japanese Role Playing Game Exclusives such as Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery, Star Ocean: The Last Hope and timed exclusive The Last Remnant.

Microsoft’s direct competitor, the Sony’s PlayStation 3 has seen its sales in Japan pass 3 million units. Both the PS3 and the 360 have been easily outsold by Nintendo’s Wii, which is just shy of 8 million units sold in Japan.
