WTF: Is Echo The New Black Panther?

First Black Panther isn’t a man anymore (o-kay), now he isn’t even black??

I guess this is real(?) even if I half expect to find out it’s just one in a series of “Is [fill-in-the-chick] The New Black Panther?” ads with Elektra, Black Widow, Storm and other potential mystery Pantherettes (inevitably drawn by Greg Horn…)
I really liked Echo when she debuted in Daredevil and was glad to see her show up in New Avengers, even if her inclusion there felt a bit random. But replacing T’Challa? That makes no sense to me…

How can you be sure it’s real? If it is, it’s a serious breach of something. I like Echo too but she isn’t Black is she? Can’t they think of something better to do with her? I find it hard to believe that Hudlin would do this.

Nah, that would be too bloody wack. Other than Storm, I don’t see who could pull it off without causin’ something of a small uproar.
Either way, with Marvel raising the prices on every damned thing, I may only find out through online spoilers.

This doesn’t make any sense. One of the major themes Marvel has always followed is in how xenophobic and racist T’Challa’s kingdom is. T’Challa might be open-minded, but his people see the rest of the world as dimwitted idiots, especially fellow black Africans. This makes as much sense as having Echo made part of the Inhuman royal family.

“half expect??” this SCREAMS that it’s the first in a series of teasers with different characters. i’m downright confused if it isn’t.
