Blaxploitation seems like it hasn’t lost any of its appeal these days. You already know about Jim Rugg’s Afrodisiac – now check out this new online comic strip called World of Hurt, by Jay Potts. This one’s got it all – a tough-talking, take-no-bull anti-hero, pimps and hos, street punks, The Man, everything. The art is outstanding. Potts recreates the 70s perfectly with the clothing, hairstyles, and cars, and the cityscape has the feel of Harlem (even though it’s in a fictitious city). The storytelling is also quite good; believable dialogue, well-paced, and with distinctive characters. Definitely one of the best new comics I’ve seen all year.
