We Hate Comics #8: Absolution, Chew, Mayhem & Irredeemable

Posted by: Jon Haehnle on August 10, 2009 at 5:35 pm

Due to some scheduling differences, we had to do most of this week’s podcast without Diana. Shola and I both absolutely loved Absolution & Chew, although we can’t say the same for Tyrese Gibson’s Mayhem. Diana showed up later to rave about The Veil and Irredeemable, which we also praised in our newly added Quickie Reviews segment — that’s like triple the love for Mark Waid & Boom this week!

Absolution #1 (BUY IT)
Chew #3 (JON & SHOLA’S BOOK OF THE WEEK!)
Ghost Riders: Heaven’s On Fire #1 (WAIT FOR THE TRADE)
House of M: Masters of Evil #1 (SPLIT VERDICT)
Ultimatum: Fantastic Four – Requiem #1 (BUY IT)
Quickie Reviews: (Captain America: Reborn #2, Iron Man: Armor Wars #1, Irredeemable #5, Justice League: Cry for Justice #2, North 40 #2 and Tyrese Gibson’s Mayhem #1)
Irredeemable #5 (BUY IT)
The Veil #2 (DIANA’S BOOK OF THE WEEK)

Special thanks as always to Comic Smash for providing Diana’s books for review and Midtown Comics for providing Jon’s.

*headshake* Tell me this isn’t your first exposure to Jason Aaron?!!? Aaron’s run on Ghost Rider’s like a classic 70′s grindhouse film. And he’s been writing it for a year. One of the most reader friendly Marvel titles. And Boschi’s art is fantastic. And Shola, please read Scalped. Please!

As for this mini-series, this is the story the main title has been building towards for a year and it’s the go-between the end of the most recent volume and the new and upcoming volume after the mini-series.
