Viz Announces Theatrical Debut of Naruto Movie

Posted by: Jon Haehnle on March 23, 2007 at 12:05 pm

This June, Viz Media will bring one of its most popular properties to North American screens when it premieres its feature-length film, Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow, increasing demand for related products available from Diamond!

The film will make its debut through National CineMedia’s Fathom in a one-night exclusive limited engagement premiere in major-market cities across the country on June 6, including New York, Los Angeles, Boston, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Atlanta and others. For more information on tickets and participating theaters, direct your Internet browser to www.FathomEvents.com.

Wildly popular in the U.S. and abroad, Naruto tells the tale of a young, hyperactive ninja in training. Originally published in Shonen Jump, Naruto made the move to its own title and was later adapted to anime. Making its American debut on Cartoon Network in the fall of 2005, it wowed fans of shows like Dragon Ball and One Piece, and Naruto remains one of the channel’s most-watched programs.

The new film, which spins out of the animated TV series’ continuity, finds Naruto and his team on a mission to guard the popular actress Yukie Fujikaze as she enters the Land of Snow to shoot the final scenes of her current film, The Adventures of Princess Gale. When Yukie escapes from the set, she is brought back by Naruto’s team, but little do they know that three rogue Snow Ninja lie in wait with a nefarious agenda that will cause Yukie to face her hidden past!

Didn’t we watch a bit of this? Naruto the Movie: Snow Princess’ Book of Ninja Arts (大活劇! 雪姫忍法帖だってばよ!!, Daikatsugeki! Yukihime Ninpōchō dattebayo!! is the official name when it came out in Japan I think…

The art is a little bit different than the anime series, but the story makes us wonder where this movie exactly is on the Naruto anime/manga timeline.

I’m not very good with dubbed anime. The voice acting sometimes rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it’s the lack of character conviction when delivering the lines?
