Veronica Mars Cancelled? *UPDATE*
Posted by: on March 16, 2007 at 9:24 am
While there’s yet to be an official word from the network, E! News columnist Kristen Veitch is reporting that The CW has decided not to renew Veronica Mars for a fourth season.
“I’ve never been less certain of our fate. I’m afraid I’ve gone from cautiously optimistic to something less than that,” said series creator Rob Thomas, when he spoke about the show’s future with Veitch, earlier this week.
Personally, I never really got the appeal of the series. I had watched an episode here and there, but nothing ever clicked with me. I liked it better when it was called Nancy Drew. I just found the character to be profoundly obnoxious. Oh, well. Between this and the end of The O.C., it’s just not a good year for pretty white kids in Cali.
**UPDATE**
Apparently, the future of the show is still up in the air at the moment, according to another report from E! News. Despite the real possibility of cancellation, insiders claim the network is considering taking the show in a different direction, should they choose to renew it; the fourth season would pick up four years later, with Veronica as an FBI Agent.

I loved the show and I’m not a pretty white kid from Cali, jackass. I’m a pretty white kid from the UK…

Veronica really isn’t like Nancy Drew at all, much less the kids of “The O.C.”. She’s dark, angry, tough, an outsider. The appeal of the show is that it actually portrays a young woman as being something other than a vixen, bitch, or waif in search of herself. She’s the only relatable college kid on TV.
And finally someone who shared my “Meh?” reaction to Veronica Mars and The O.C.. I never understood the appeal of either series. I’m sure someone will follow up my post with praise for the writing on both shows, but honestly, clever pop culture references and self-conscious, self-deprecating comments from neurotic characters don’t add up to good dialogue or good drama.

Hey now, I actually liked The O.C. Sometimes the storylines for the adults were more enjoyable than the teenagers. It wasn’t like the ‘rents were superfluous like on 90210. I still love how they got rid of Brandon’s parents; “Hi, Brandon! Your mother and I moved to China while you were on summer break! See you at Christmas!” LOL!! (I’m paraphrasing, of course, but there in fact was an episode where Brandon came home and his parents had already moved to China).
But the thing with the O.C. was they waited too long to kill off Marissa. If they had done it in the first season when she O.D.’ed in Tiajuana, that would have just opened up a whole world of story possibilities. It may have been too little, too late, but the show really came around after she died.
Uh-oh… now I have to hate on you as if you’d defiled my oatmeal!
You should review a few shojo manga! When the fangirls disagree with you, they’re actually polite and reasonable. Of the 20 or so people who posted a response to one of my reviews, only one called me an idiot. I can’t imagine the names I’d have been called if I’d dared to touch, say, Captain America or Spiderman Loves Mary Jane.

Well, I’d say just about every other person who comments on my blogs calls me either a jackass, a dumbass, or a tool. Being called an idiot would actually be a step up for me, at this point!
