1 Response to "more on Transformers and race"1 | Fred Rich, I have yet to see Transformers 2 because I haven’t heard the reviews from family, friends, and co-workers. (My wife and I did see “Up,” which is easily 2009’s best movies.) Still, I can weigh in on a couple of things mentioned in the commentary at Racialious. *First, Transformers 2’s positive portrayal of the U.S. military shouldn’t be a surprise. After all, the first movie had a similar tone. I’ve jokingly said that the U.S. military is so cool on screen that the Transformers movies may as well be recruitment films. *Second, there was buzz about Transformers 2 poking fun at the Obama administration: Is that racist? Nah. It’s not odd for filmmakers to use their craft to poke fun at the U.S. president’s policies. So, since Obama is now in the Oval Office, he’s going to get parodied.
