Great post David. This is the kind of stuff I love to see on PCS, even if most fanboys just want Secret Invasion and previews. Sentences was indeed excellent and one of my favorite reads last year as well. Gotta disagree with you on one thing though -- I always loved Low End Theory more than Midnight Marauders.

You need to holla at me. Nat Turner I have read, but now I will take a look at Sentences. Though, I am not an advocate of most ganster rappers, I will give it an open mind.

My history in comics and rap pre-dates you, as I remember most Black characters in comics had to have the "Black" attached to their name. Black Panther, Black Goliath, Black Lightning for example, as thought coloring them black was not a clue. The language was always street (see: Luke Cage) and most came from less than ideal beginnings.

The exception was Black Panther. He was cool then and He is cool now. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created a very positive model. Makes me want to go to Wakanda.
