I am a huge GRRM fan. If you’re not reading the “Song of Ice and Fire” series of novels, you’re missing one of the greatest fantasy series ever written. Among Martin’s many other projects was a series of novels he edited called Wild Cards, which was in a Rising Stars/Heroes kind of vein, and this new mini-series from Dabel Brothers is based on those books, featuring art by Eric Battle.

Justice League of America: The Injustice League HC (DC). Dwayne McDuffie’s first story arc gets collected in a hardcover.

UVC Nov/Dec. My final full issue as editor; this is the Black Women in Comics special, including articles on Barbara Brandon-Croft, Spike, Marvel and DC black heroines, and much more.

Got a preview of this at San Diego – it’s an anthology of stories inspired by classic rap songs. I can tell you with certainty that one of the writers, Christian Beranek, is pretty good. He wrote the indy mini-series Dracula vs. King Arthur from over a year ago, which was quite a pleasant surprise, so I have hopes about this.

Sam Jackson’s got a sci-fi film due out in early 2008 called Jumper, reuniting him with his Star Wars co-star Hayden Christensen. This comic will serve as a prequel of sorts. I feel I should also mention that the creative team of Nunzio DeFilippis, Christina Weir and Brian Hurtt is a fantastic one. They’re the ones who did the graphic novel Three Strikes, which I’ve recommended here, so I’m convinced this will be a way-better-than-average movie-tie-in.
