Capcom has announced today that Resident Evil 6 is in full development and scheduled for release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 20, 2012 with a Windows PC version to follow.

It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. Due to be by the President’s side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision. At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack.  With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left.

In a first for the franchise, Resident Evil 6 sees series favorites Leon and Chris come together to face this unprecedented threat. They will be joined by new characters, each with their own unique perspective and involvement, in this relentless dramatic horror experience enacted on a global scale.

The retail pre-order campaign for Resident Evil 6 also kicks off today. GameStop, Best Buy and Amazon.com will each get an exclusive map that will function with various modes in the game. Capcom has just released the next trailer for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City which introduces the six members of the US Spec Ops team.

In Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City players take on the role of an elite member of the Umbrella Security Service (USS) squad and battle against all the opposing forces at play in Raccoon City. With the zombies and B.O.W’s adding chaos to the action and the return of favorite Resident Evil enemies all roads will lead to hell when Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City releases on March 20, 2012 in North America for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The PC version will follow shortly after console release.

The newest trailer, titled ‘Triple Threat’ shows off team members Tweed, Dee-Ay, Harley, Willow, Shona and Party Girl as they are dispatched to Raccoon City under orders to determine the source of the mysterious T-virus outbreak. The US Spec Ops team will use their elite skills and training to defeat the Umbrella Security Service (USS) team and ensure the truth behind the outbreak is revealed.

The new trailer shows off the brutal triple threat combat between the USS, US Spec Ops, and zombies and B.O.W’s. How many RE2 era baddies can you spot?

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City has received a go-date for March 20 in the States. Being developed by Slant Six Games (SOCOM: Confrontation), players take on the role of an Umbrella Security Service soldier trying to wipe out implicating evidence of zombies and bio-organic weapons from the Resident Evil series and also having the unique opportunity to take out rookie Raccoon City police officer, Leon Kennedy, in this third-person, team-based shooter.

A Special Edition of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City has been announced and will feature a copy of the game, a Steelbook with exclusive art, stylized foil sleeve, Umbrella Security Service embroidered patch, Spec Ops Field Unit embroidered patch, and all eight bonus weapons. Pre-orders of the PS3 or Xbox 360 version through GameStop, Amazon, or Best Buy will receive one additional costume for each of the six playable characters, along with two bonus weapons unique to each retailer.

A PC version has been announced, but currently a date for that hasn’t been announced.

In an updated note directly from PlayStation Blog, apparently Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI will not be releasing the 20th (and no new date has been announced for the drops). The following note was released on the site: ‘This post incorrectly identified the release of two PSone Classics, Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger. These titles will not be releasing on PSN at this time. We sincerely regret the error.‘

Our buddies at PlayStation Blog just let the news out and this one is sure to get the collective gasp of an entire generation of gamers. Chrono Trigger is coming to PlayStation Network tomorrow! Yes, yes… We know that you’ve got other things on your mind in the video games universe, but the classic SNES game that has made time on the Virtual Console [Wii], Nintendo DS, PlayStation One and even various cellphones finally arrives on the PlayStation 3.

As one of the RPG’s that helped define an era of console gaming, Chrono Trigger is considered by many to be the best SNES RPG of all time. Here’s yet another chance to find out why but be warned, this is J-RPG goodness from Square Enix and the original design team that was Hironobu Sakaguchi and Akira Toriyama.

While you’re on the PlayStation Store grabbing up Chrono Trigger, you may wanna save up some cash and not miss out on Resident Evil 4 HD as well as Final Fantasy VI (the other SNES defining Square Enix RPG). RE4: HD is priced at $19.99 but if you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber you can grab it for $10.00. Alongside RE4: HD‘s release on PSN, the PSOne classics Resident Evil: Director’s Cut, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis will also be on this week’s update for $2.99 each (free for PS Plus).

Whether that something is as simple as a ‘wiimake’, i.e., a re-release of the original game outfitted with Wii controls, or something more substantial, is totally up in the air.

While fans have been begging Capcom to remake the classic Resident Evil games with the Resident Evil 4 engine, the more likely call (and honestly preferable in our mind) is a Gamecube-style Resident Evil 1/Resident Evil Zero pre-rendered update downloadable via PSN and? Xbox Live.

Again, this is all wishful thinking and speculation.? Here’s the curious post to decipher as you will.? Again, could be bullshot…but we’d put money down that Capcom’s up to something.

During a Q&A segment at the Resident Evil 5 Wondercon panel, Capcom was asked by an enthusiastic fan about a possible Resident Evil 2 remake. Mike Webster of Capcom decided to respond to the answer. He said, “Stay tuned, we absolutely understands that these are classic games,” and added, “Some announcements, that you will be very interested in [are on the way].”
