Even moreso than Savage Dragon, I feel like WildC.A.T.s had to be one of the most random-as-fuck comics to come of out Image’s line of launch titles back in 1992. The sheer abundance of pastiche characters was rather overwhelming, and it seemed like no one could ever decide on a concrete mythology to follow. Details of certain characters changed like the weather, contradictory elements got added in just to spice things up, character’s transformed into whole other different beings. Let’s not even get into the short-lived animated series and its glorious theme song! If any comic NEEDS to be brought to the big screen, it’s WildC.A.T.s. And I’d want it to be as fun and blissfully stupid as possible.

CAST

Sam Worthington as Spartan - Who better to play an emotionally confused cyborg/alien hybrid than a man whose most famous roles have been as an emotionally confused cyborg AND an alien hybrid! He may hail from the Keanu Reeves acting workshop/pottery class, but I feel like that’s exactly the route to go when bringing a character like Spartan to life. He feels like a “leader by default” type of character.

Abbie Cornish as Zealot - Say what you will about Sucker Punch, but Cornish threw down when it came to those action scenes. I think her character even had a sword in that one, too! Hell, she even had to go “warrior woman” in one scene of Limitless, and the look in her eyes was menacing! I would not wanna tango with this broad (or maybe I would!)

Brian Van Holt as Grifter - Van Holt’s acting career is peppered with roles that come close to matching the “cocky gunslinger” quality of a character like Grifter. ANd just look at this face. He’s already a “that guy” actor anyway. If you had to guess his name, wouldn’t your mind already come up with something along the lines of “Cole Cash”?

Matt Mullins as Warblade - I wouldn’t subject him to the “Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine” treatment, but this casting choice is more for Mullins’ skills as a martial artist than his acting, which isn’t necessarily bad. I’d let him speak, and stuff!

Rosario Dawson as Voodoo - A flashback to the character’s time as an exotic dancer would be mandatory!

James Ransone as Dr. Jeremy Stone - Ransone’s a solid actor, and has always been skinny-ass gnat. He’d be perfect for the human side of the character Maul.

Brian Steele as Maul - Steele is a veteran creature performer, and he’s done characters as tall as 8 or 9 feet, easy. Get someone like Steve Johnson or Patrick Totoupolous to do the creature effects, and I’d be more than confident in their ability to come up with something impressive.

Peter Dinklage as Jacob Marlowe/Lord Emp - Even before Game Of Thrones, Dinklage has been known for turning in one stellar performance after another. I could see him having fun playing the alien billionaire that finances the WildC.A.T.s. I can already see him smokin’ a cigar in a fine Italian suit.

Any random European model as Void - Over time, I’ve gotten the impression that Void is a more complex character than she has any right to be, but to most fans, she’s just a hot chick that floats around as she stares blankly into space. Squeeze her into a mo-cap body suit, and let special effects adorn her in all manner of silvery goodnees.

DIRECTOR

Oh, this has Louis Leterrier written all over it!!!

DC has made a couple huge announcements recently. One of those announcements was that they will re-launch all their comics in September starting with issue #1′s on each book. The other is that they are re-designing over 50 popular characters in the DC universe. Hit the jump for more details and the first image of some of the re-designed DC heroes: The Justice League.

Most of the re-designs are being handled by none other than Jim Lee. These revamps can affect appearance, origin, age or sex. The hope was that the updates would appeal to the ‘current generation of readers.’ A big example of this is Superman being noticeably younger in this image.

We’ll have more as it breaks.

DC Comics to end the Wildstorm Universe in December 2010.

Both Jim Lee and Dan Didio broke the news together yesterday. More after the jump.

As DC Comics makes more strides to fold their business into Warner Bros. Entertainment’s operations; the company is undergoing many changes. Some of the changes include certain parts of the DC Comics business moving from New York where the company is currently headquartered to Los Angeles. Meanwhile, others will have a much heavier impact on fans.

Dan Didio and Jim Lee, co-Publishers at DC Comics announced that Wildstorm Comics will come to an end. As the label Jim Lee started back in 1992 as his contribution to founding Image Comics, the Wildstorm Universe titles will end this December.

The many licensed titles including videogame comics, kids comics, etc will be published directly under DC Comics.

Second only to those of Batman, Nightwing’s fighting skills and detective abilities are a definite advantage for a hero who also has gas pellets, smoke capsules, and an acetylene torch.

Here’s something you don’t see everyday. SOE is giving fans a chance to animate their favorite heroes and villains for the upcoming DC Universe Online MMO. All you have to do is head over to the DCUO fan page on Facebook starting December 7, 2009. All the tools needed to make your own animations can be found there as well a way to view and vote on the entries submitted by others.

“The DCUO/Mass Animation contest takes a part of the game out of the development studio and puts it in the hands of fans, an empowering opportunity for our community,” said John Smedley, president of SOE. “Players will have a chance through qualified contest submissions to be involved with the game’s development at a deeper level than ever before by animating actions for in-game heroes and villains.”

All the tools that animators will need to collaborate on this project, including a special edition of Autodesk Maya 3D Animation software, storyboards, designs and fully-rigged 3-D models will be provided to contest entrants and accessed through the Mass Animation application on the DCUO Facebook fan page. Participating animators will upload their contest submissions back to the application for viewing, voting and sharing with their friends. New to the contest this year will be the Mass Animation iPhone app, which gives people a new way to view and vote on submissions. Qualified contest winners will receive cash or other prizes. Each week, voters and a panel of judges will help determine what shots qualify as the “best” and will be eligible for voter prizes.

Even Asian fellas can be cute? Excuse me?

I am just playing, Jon and Ernie! Curb your grumpy retorts! I know Asian dudes are no less cute than their counterparts. There’s a qualifier here, though. Asian dudes are no less cute, but it doesn’t mean there is an abundance of cute Asian dudes. Given that there’s only so many men who are cute, and men that are Asian, there can only be so many attractive Asian males. So where do you find them? And what do you do with them once you catch them? Answers after the jump!

You find them on the Internet by googling Asian male models and celebrities. And then you shellac them and put them in your foyer so they can hold your hats and scarves. Forever and ever. And no, that’s not what I do, I don’t have a foyer, jerks. But if I did, you’d be sure to see these following gentleman statues:

John Cho: There’s much PCS ado about John Cho’s hotness. I agree, I agree!

Derek Lam: Philip Lim is an older Asian banker. Jason Wu is in high school, making jokes about butt sex. Alex Wang is a super stylish cutie and a complete fruitcake. (Psst… these people are Asian fashion designers, btw.) Which leave me Derek Lam. Thankfully he is very attractive, in that professor kind of way, all tweed and argula and sophistication. Don’t worry about the shaved look, Derek. Some say hair loss, I say experience.

Jim Lee: Okay, so maybe I won’t go for young Jim Lee with nerd glasses, tight jeans, and miming abilities. But older Jim Lee, with his wealth of talent (and possibly money) and Asian facial scruff, is totally sexy. James Jean could be competition, seeing as he’s quite talented, younger, not married and never mimed on YouTube. Too bad he’s not half as cute. Sorry James Jean!

Daniel Dae Kim: There’s something about Jin’s sensitive side and limited vocabulary that is just HOT. Boat! Michael! Boat! Pure poetry.

Jay Chou: I hear Jay Chou is this bratty misogynist. And for sure Kato is a marginalized role. But I have enough high school girl in me to be excited about the Green Lantern movie. Squeal!

Daniel Liu: I came across Daniel 2 when I was on a crazed mission of find this Asian male model that I saw on Nordstrom.com a few years back in a lovely blog on Asian models and fell a bit in love. Then I listened to him in a NPR interview and fell a bit out of love. But he does have great hair and is taller than a skyscraper. I can ride on his shoulders and reach books on the top shelf. He can be world’s most attractive ladder.

Mystery Nordstrom/J.Crew Model: Hey mystery handsome Asian Nordstrom model anywhere from 1-3 years ago! Yeah you. I’m looking for you!

At this point the foyer would be getting kind of full and I would have trouble walking. Hear that, Ernie and Jon? I admit it! There’s enough attractive Asian men out there to keep me from walking in a straight line, should I ever leave my imaginary house. But since we’re… uh… just fantasizing… yeah… let’s hear from peanut gallery about their top Asian male heartthrobs. Guys, feel free to join—we know about you got your man-crushes.

GEOFF JOHNS AND JIM LEE ARE NAMED GUESTS OF HONOR AT NEW YORK COMIC CON

Norwalk, CT, November 13, 2008: Two more notable comic book celebrities will be joining the festivities at New York Comic Con (NYCC) this year as Guests of Honor. Affording thousands of fans the opportunity to meet them in person, Geoff Johns, who is well-known as a comic book writer of a number of DC Comics characters, including Superman, Green Lantern and the Flash as well as for his work as a screenwriter; and superstar artist Jim Lee, known for his acclaimed artistic runs on titles including BATMAN, ALL STAR BATMAN and WILDCATS, will be attending NYCC to help launch the new Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing game, DC Universe Online (DCUO), produced by Sony Online Entertainment for PLAYSTATION 3 in collaboration with DC Comics and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Both Johns and Lee will be signing autographs and they will conduct a large DC Universe Online event on Saturday, February 7, 2009. New York Comic Con will take place at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City, February 6 – 8, 2009.

“Having both Jim Lee and Geoff Johns at our show is a great ‘get’ under any circumstance, but it’s especially cool to have them here to as part of DC Universe Online,” notes Lance Fensterman, Vice President and Con Manager for NYCC. “They will do a fabulous job entertaining our fans and I know that they will attract huge crowds, not only for autographs but also for their demonstration. I am enormously grateful to them for participating in New York Comic Con and we’re pleased to have them as Guests of Honor.”

“Jim and Geoff represent two of the top talents in comics, so it only makes sense that they’d transfer those skills to the gaming world,” said Dan DiDio, SVP and Executive Editor for DC Comics. “It’s a perfect fit to have them named Guests of Honor at New York Comic Con.”

GEOFF JOHNS: Johns began writing for DC Comics with Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. Through the years he has written primarily for DC and was responsible for the return of Hal Jordan in 2005 as the writer of the Green Lantern: Rebirth mini-series and subsequent Green Lantern ongoing title. In 2006 Johns reunited with his mentor Richard Donner on the Superman title Action Comics and this year it was announced he would write and Ethan Van Sciver would draw the miniseries The Flash: Rebirth, focusing on the return of Barry Allen as the Flash. He recently wrote an episode of Smallville that introduced the Legion of Super-Heroes to the world of live action for the first time. Johns is a principal writer for DCUO, where he has been tasked with bringing the DC Universe to life.

JIM LEE: Acclaimed comic book illustrator Jim Lee was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1964. Today, Lee is the creative director of WildStorm Studios (which he founded in 1992) and the penciller for many of DC Comics’ bestselling comic book and graphic novels, including All Star Batman and Robin, The Boy Wonder, Batman: Hush, and Superman: For Tomorrow. He also serves as the Executive Creative Director for the upcoming DC Universe Online videogame. In his spare time, Jim notes that he enjoys a good laugh or two.
