Apple Chairman and former CEO Steve Jobs has passed away after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. The news broke following a statement by Apple’s Board of Directors issued today reporting the passing of the 56-year old visionary.

Jobs’ name was synonymous with computers and technology. Having lent his talents to the building of personal computers, smartphones, tablets, and digital animation mass-market products, the world of electronics and technology will severely miss his presence.

Not only did he pioneer computers in every dorm, bedroom and living room, Steve Jobs changed the face of computers with the iPhone and iPad. The music business was turned on its own ear with the iPod and iTunes. The film industry was forever changed after Jobs co-founded PIXAR Animation Studios, a movie-making breakthrough that defined our generation.

Jobs’ remarkable vision in the electronics and entertainment business can be summed up in his own words, “A lot of times, people don’t know what they want until you show it to them.”

Rest in peace, Steve. The world will always remember your talents and accomplishments…

This on the heels of the Wall Street Journal reporting last week that Apple’s iPhone would launch on the Verizon network in early 2011. With the iPad’s exclusivity with AT&T being broken, it’s not so far a stretch to expect to see official confirmation of the iPhone doing the same shortly.

Apple is reportedly planning on producing a new iPhone with a Qualcomm chip to work on Verizon Wireless’ CDMA network by the end of the year.

Verizon will begin carrying the phone early next year. With the iPhone performing very well in the market considering AT&T has been the only carrier, it will be interesting to see how things change as it branches out to more carriers.

The best news for Xbox fans? The Microsoft store can fix most Xbox 360 RROD problems on-site, so no more sending your Xbox off for impromptu vacations. Unfortunately, the only existing store is in Scottsdale, Arizona. Here’s hoping for expansion.
