Samuel L. Jackson to Play Nick Fury in Iron Man?!?!

According to Ain’t It Cool News, anyway, claiming that the actor has already started filming. The Marvel adaptation already boasts an impressive cast, including Robert Downey Jr., Gwenyth Paltrow, and Jeff Bridges, and the inclusion of Jackson is definitely interesting. Ever since the actor was used as a reference for the look of Nick Fury in the Ultimate Marvel Universe, fans have long speculated on the possibility of him playing the role for real. Lord knows he’s already played an intellegence operative with facial scarring in the XXX movies. This should be a walk in the park, by comparison.

I really pictured denis leary playing nick fury. he looks the right age and could definetly play nick as the badass he is. the ultimate universe should not be considered canon and whenever a characters ethnicity is altered the fans get pissed off. michael clarke duncan was great as the kingpin, but, and i was surprised, the fans got pissed. thats why laurence fishburne wasn’t chosen as doc ock(the original plan and he is the only black actor i can think of who i would buy as doc ock)and why ff chose chiklis over a black actor(I vaguely recall hearing a black actor might have been considered, but don’t quote me on that.

I never heard anything about a black actor being considered for The Thing in FF. I think that was just fans bitching when they found out Tim Story was directing it, and only having his previous film Barbershop as a frame of reference. A lot of fans ignorantly joked that he’d make the film too “hood” and cast rappers and black comedians.

I’m just getting tired of white parts being replaced with black actors for the sole purpose of Hollywood’s PR push for equality……..movies like Cat Woman, The Nutty Professor, Doctor Dolittle, The Honey Mooners……. were recasted with black actors and actresses for the sole reason of getting Hollywood’s Public Relations with the black community in better standings, and possibly the simple wow factor. Not to mention casting a black man in XXX- State of the Union after Vin Diesel turned them down to do a part 2. White actors get white parts…. (Nick Fury, The Thing, Cat Woman)……. Black actors get Black parts (Blade, Spawn, whatever)……… if their aren’t many good black parts to play, tell black people to start writing their own comics or ask Marvel/DC to make more black characters. And if another white part show made movie like “The Odd Couple” is remade with an all black cast I’ll really be pissed off. If a black movie can not be about gang bangers (American Gangsters, Dangerous Minds) or sterotypical black neighborhoods (Barbershop, Friday) or break dancing (Save the Last Dance) then they should learn to be more creative and original and not leech off of well made- intelligent Caucasian movies…….. like, the Nutty Professor………. Lastly, this Nick Fury being played by Samuel L. Jackson is just a joke to me…. he’s a great actor, but like I said, I’m getting sick of this white part being filled with black actor bit…. not for the reasons of race, but for the reasons of straying from the original design because it may seem more publically friendly to fill a major part with a black actor. If their aren’t any really good black parts or not many of them, make them, don’t just steal white parts.

Samuel L. Jackson got the part because when Marvel created the Ultimate universe; it was MARVEL who made Nick Fury look like a bald headed Samuel L. Jackson.
It’s as simple as that.

Wow, there’s so much of that rant that’s absolutely clueless, it makes me laugh.
1. Don’t bring up the Catwoman movie, because for starters, it was crap. And second, Ertha Kitt played Catwoman back on the 60s. Blacks were still fighting to just be able to sit in the same diner as whites.
2. Uh, Vin Diesel is half-black. And it’s not like Ice Cube played Diesel’s character in the sequel. When Diesel dropped out, they thought of a way of continuing the franchise with a different character, and Ice Cube was who they picked.
3. To say nothing of the fact that you’re coming off incredibly ignorant by implying that the films you mention function primarily because the characters are white.

Diego, you are ignorant and racist. You should not comment on things you know little about, which to be honest, sounds like everything. First, Vin Diesel, is half Black. Second, Marvel first used Samuel Jackson as a model for Mr. Nick Fury back in an episode of Marvel Universe. Third, Nutty Professor, Doctor Doolittle and the Honeymooners, are remakes, that means they are being “REMADE”. What part of that concept do you not understand? Lastly, where the hell were you and your comments when Heston played Moses, and Liz Taylor was playing Cleopatra? White people have played roles that were originally cast or historically not Whites. True prejudice, like yours when we make movies that transcend race. When the only thing that matters is the quality of the work. I am sure you had no problem with Topher Grace begin cast as Venom when, other than his race, he was totally wrong for the part?!? So Diego, as long as all you see is race, you are a bigot and my words are wasted on you.

Devonne since you brought it up, and this is open to anyone who happens to know with absolute certainty, I’ve always been confused by the assertion that Cleopatra was black. Her primary language was Greek; for several centuries preceding her rule, Egyptian kings had been of Greek (i.e. Hellenistic) origin rather than Egyptian origin. The establishment of a Greek-speaking aristocracy in Egypt had come with Alexander the Great nearly 300 years before. Cleopatra is reputed to have been the first member of her family in their 300-year reign in Egypt to have learned the Egyptian language. So it’s very possible someone in the family had relations with darker skinned folks. Can you site where she was black? Is there proof one way or the other?

Most comics and old movies were played by whites when it was not allowed for blacks to play in movies with whites. and to john look in your history books, because cleopata was black and can u prove that she was not? And one more thing in this day and age why does race matter, black white brown it doesn’t matter, alot of you say that race doesn’t matter when in fact the comments on here prove otherwise, would you guys pose the questions to your black friends? I don’t care who plays who it’s a movies and if you cannot enjoy th movie because of the skin of the person that’s playing the part then shame on you.
