Electric Guest – American Daydream: This song here had me hooked from the first chord that touched my ears. This is a laid back, chill song with a sprinkle of Jazz and Funk to it. I love it!

Elle Varner – Ghost: I like this song, I really do. I am not a big fan of R&B but this song is very soulful. I love soulful R&B songs, I just might feature more tracks from this artist. Keep your ears open for more music from this young lady.

Emilio Rojas – Breaking Point: I have heard this artist featured on quite a few Hip-Hop songs. My feelings about this rapper are so, so; there isn’t anything that stands out with his lyrical content and delivery BUT the production is what catches my ear. The production really carries this artist on this track.

Evian Christ – Thrown Like Jacks: My Jam of the Week! This is something sick in an ill way. The beat is dope and the vocals are perfect for this song. This song is all instrumental, FYI, that’s what makes this song my jam this week.

Frank Ocean – Voodoo: My only problem with this song is I wish it was longer. I enjoy the lite background vocals behind Frank’s vocals, that’s really makes the song for me. I really wish he stop playing around and put out an album already.

JMSM – Jameson: So, I just picked up JMSN’s album, Priscilla, it’s a very good album. His style reminds me of The Weeknd blended with Justin Timberland because of his sexual undertone with his lyrics and his voice is similar to Justin’s voice. I really like this song from Priscilla.

John Legend: Tonight (Best You Ever Had): Smooth, cool, and sexy are some words to describe this song. This is something different from John Legend’s normal. I enjoy the different style of John in this song; I hope he keeps it.

M.I.A. – Bad Girls: I am kind of a lite fan of M.I.A., I respect her fearless attitude to be different from other female performers. This song caught my ears therefore it made it on Fresh Fridays.

Pretty Lights – We Must Go On: You all know I love this style/genre of music because of the sample vocals and dope beat. This song here has so many elements of styles and instruments in it. Enjoy!

Voli – Stripes: This sample is very dope, who are these producers who find these samples? The producer on this track has done a great f*cking job with the sample and the beat. I feel as if the beat and sample really carries this song.

White Rabbits – Heavy Metal: This is a good Indie Rock song. This group is new to me, I think. I feel as if I’ve heard this group before but anyway the vocals and the guitar rift are great in this song.

88 Keys – Into The Future: First, you all know I love Back to the Future. Second, this is a dope f*cking song. The beat is smooth and laid back. 88 Keys lyrical content reminds me of Kanye West. This sounds like Kanye a little but all and all this is a great song.

We’re back to the regular new and relatively new songs. This week I am feeling almost all the following tracks below. I’ve put a great list together for you guys, enjoy!

M.I. Featuring Scienze – Bubble: My second Jam of the Week! This song is so freaking Hip-Hop. The beat is very sick with its soulful, simple sound to it. The sample really makes the song for me and the lyrical content is just so laid back and Hip-Hop.

Mansions On the Moon – Athens: This is a great song, I am a fan of this group now. This track was produced by Skateboard P AKA Pharell. The low vocals on this song reminds me of MGMT. I actually thought this was a MGMT song. Check it out because it’s an excellent song.

Mr. Fogg – Stay Out Of The Sun: This is a very somber, Electro-Pop song. Do not get me wrong this a good song here. The only thing about this song is its kind of depressing but in a good way. Can there be a good depression? Ha!

Sol Featuring Ray Dalton Need Your Love: So I listened to this song quite a few time and I came to a conclusion that this group sounds like Black Eye Peas. The lead singing/rapping vocals, the deep voice background vocals, the female feature, and the funky, poppy beat all sounds like a Black Eye Peas song. Great song!

Tanlines – Brothers: This is one cool a$$ song here! This song makes me want to bust a move. The beat, vocals, and just the all around feel of this song is quite awesome.

DWNTWN – Big Jet Plane (Cover): I hate hearing cover to songs I never heard the original version because when I do go back to listen to the original version I love the cover much better. I have featured music from this group before and I really enjoy the lead vocalist’s voice.

Idle Warship – Enemy: Who is Idle Warship you might ask? A Hip-Hop and R&B duo group featuring Talib Kweli and Res. I’ve recently attended an Idle Warship live show and it was pretty dope. This was one song that stuck out to me during their show. From my live experience to you all ears

The Limousines – Call Me Al (Paul Simon Cover): Another awesome cover! I really love this song, I can’t tell you exactly why. The sound of this song really catches my ear; the vocals are my favorite part of the song.

Logic – Young Sinatra III: My Jam of the Week! YO! This song is crazy dope! It’s so classic, like The Firm or ’96 cool emcee flow type of classic. In my eyes Logic is one of the best emcee that has came out of 2011. This is a new song from Logic, enjoy!

Major Lazer – Original Don (Flosstradamus Remix): This is an awesome freaking dance song! If was ever in a club and I heard this song I would lose my f-ing mind. Please, any DJ that views this volume of Fresh Fridays, use this song in your next play list and watch the hold club go insane.

Manor – Rhodesia: Funny thing, the reason I picked this song because of its build up, if you guys follow me you all would know I hate opening song build ups. This is a very cool Indie Rock song, take my word for it.

Midi Matilda – Day Dreams:  I like this song but I am not over excited about this song. I feel as if this song is the normal Indie Pop song I like to listen to every now and again. I am a little sad because I kind of want to love this song. Oh well.

Newtimers – January Love: Sometime I like songs for the lead singers’ vocals. The lead vocals in this group are cool. He has this 80’s New Wave sound to his vocals. I love it!

San Cisco – Awkward Master: I love how I find catchy song every now and again. Duet songs are very cool. I love the conversational tone in this song between the two leads, that’s one of the coolest things about this song.

Shuteye – How You Are I Never: I don’t think I really like this song now that I listen to it for the tenth time. I am not thrilled about the lead vocals because her vocals really don’t stand out to me. I have been spoiled by these unique, at times gritty female lead vocalists. Sorry.

Skizzy Mars – Sirens: This guy just might be kind of cool. I am feeling his style of delivery and his choice of beat usages is also cool. The chorus of this song is very dope, which is the best part of the song to me.

Terence Ryan – Alan’s Right: This beat and chorus is amazing for an Independent artist. At times Independent artists really impress me more than industry artists. This is a dope song everyone, let’s support more Independent artists.

Not much I can say about JQuest. The Boston M.C. is doing what he can to make a name for himself, and for what it’s worth, “Shopaholic” isn’t a bad track.

Here is a fact about me, I LOVE 80’s MUSIC! With that being said, I’ve picked twenty-eight of my favorite 80’s songs for you all to enjoy. I only picked twenty-eight songs for the number of years I have been living on this Earth. When in actuality I am only twenty-seven years of age but I will be twenty-eight this year therefore I rounded up the track list. I am not going to go into explanation why I’ve picked each song because each explanation would be like a page long. We’re just here for the music, am I right?  Do know this, 80’s music has been a big influence in my upbringing as a child and also as nerdy adult. These tracks below plus many more songs has always provided joy, creativity, and happiness to my ears, mind, and heart. It might sound a bit corny but all I can say is my mother was an 80’s kid; whatever she listened to I had to listen to. Who knew I would grow up to still love some of these great tunes? Enough of me being nostalgic; download the first volume of Retro Fridays and let me know what you think of my small collection of 80’s music.

Enjoy!

This edition of Fresh Fridays just might be one of my favorite assortments of music by far. Let’s begin…

2AM Club Featuring Chiddy – Every Evening: I just might have found a new group to follow in 2012. I have heard three solid songs by this group. I really enjoy this song with the additional lyrics from Chiddy from Chiddy Bang makes this song a piece of dope-ness!

Birdy – 1901 (Phoenix Cover): It’s crazy how they’re more and more cover songs that are better than the original songs. I do not think I was a fan of the original song but I am a fan of this cover. Any cover song with a female vocalist is more awesome than the original.

Cris Cab – One Thing: This guy kind of reminds me of Robin Thicke, not because he’s White, no! He has this Soul, Pop thing going on with the way he delivers the lyrics in this song. I like the beat, produced by Pharell Williams; very different from The Nuptunes’ usual bass and snare.

The Concept – GIMME TWICE: This is super catchy, like Target commercial catchy from the first second this song begins to play. I wonder was that the thing they were shooting for, catchy, commercial song. Good, fun music for a Saturday night. Enjoy!

Foxes – Youth: I instantly loved this song from the moment it hit my ears. The lead vocalist voice is amazing and the beat is great. The beat has this Dance, bass sound going on with it that kind of brings out the lead vocalist voice. This is a great song.

Get People – Macaw: I am not sure what genre this song would land in; it’s a little bit of everything. There is a little Electronica, Dancehall, Pop, and Alternate. This group makes this sound work for them. There is a unique but familiar feel to this song; it’s very enjoyable.

The Guillemots – I Don’t Feel Amazing Now (Mooli Remix): I like everything with this song, this song is so good I do not want to hear the original song. The vocals are meaningful and the beat is body moving. Strange because the song’s lyrics are somber but the beat really brings out the lyrics.

Jayy Fresh – Sickness & Collapse: So, Jayy Fresh begun following me on Twitter and I’ve noticed she’s a MC therefore decided to check her work out. Her work has this classic, soulful, true Hip-Hop feel to it. These two songs really caught my ear and I had to feature them this week. From me and my PCS family, let’s give a big welcome to Jayy Fresh to Fresh Fridays. If you want to check out more of her work, click here:  http://soundcloud.com/jayy-fresh

Jay-Z Featuring B.I.C. – Glory: As you might know (or not know) I am not the biggest Jay-Z fan BUT this is a great song; it’s about his daughter. There is a beautiful thing in these lyrics, congrats Shawn Carter.

M3SA – Heart Throb: To think I almost passed up on this song. Allow me to share a tale with you all how this song made its way onto Fresh Fridays. I listened to this song once and I was indifferent at first. I gave it a second listen on my speakers and every member in my household was body rocking, dancing, and just moving to the beat. Shazam! It’s here on Fresh Fridays thanks to my family.

Mansions On The Moon – Rest Of Your Days: I’ve featured quite a few songs from this group because they’re growing on me, I think I just might actually like this group. This song is very mellow and laid back; the vocals and lyrical content are very Folk with an abstract feel to it.

The-Dream – ROC: I am still waiting on another “Wedding Crasher” type of song from The-Dream. I am not a big fan of The-Dream because his music and song content just doesn’t really appeal to me. ROC is another song of his that I am feeling shoulder shrugs toward. Hey, don’t take my word for, it give this song a listen for yourself.

Tony Williams Featuring Wale, Emilio Rajas, and Macklemore – Blazin’ High: This is my Jam of the week! Who is Tony Williams? Well you all might have heard his voice featured on many Hip-Hop songs but he is known for his background vocals on many Kanye West’s songs; (Heard ‘Em Say, Say You Will, and All  of the Lights just to name a few.) I have always loved the sound of his voice, kind of an 808’s and the Heartbreak sound to his voice. Bottom line this is a dope a$$ song and he has a new mixtape out today called, Some Of My Best Friends Are Rappers. Check it out!

Tune-Yards – Gangsta: I don’t know what to say about this song because it’s just too fantastic for words. I really like this song therefore you should also!

Youth Lagoon – July: This is a great song; I honestly mean that from the bottom of my heart. I really enjoy this song for its low vocals to its awesome build up. This song becomes sunshine to my ears at 2:49, magic!

Rap trio Gods’Illa take to the streets of DC to get their “Do The Right Thing” on with their latest video for their track, “Sal’s Pizzzeria”.

First and foremost, even before she started toolin’ around fashion shows with Kanye, I wanted to be in the Amber Rose business. She had her little bit of spotlight in that Ludacris “What Them Girls Like” video, and I was like, “YES, PLEASE!!!”

***Public Service Announcement***

Happy New Years! Welcome back to another Friday with yours truly. Here on Fresh Fridays I am going to do a few things a little different in 2012. I am still going to feature new music from the industry’s best and up and coming artists but I am also going to sprinkle a little sweetness onto Fresh Fridays. How you might ask, I am randomly going to feature classic tunes/best of ______ from some of my favorite artists through out time and genres. I am also going to feature “Retro Fridays,” some of my favorite songs from particular eras in music like 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. So, sit back; enjoy 2012 with Pop Culture Shock and Fresh Fridays.

2AM Club – Tell Her Hi: I have featured a few songs from this group before but this song here is very unique from the others. For one reason, there are MC lyrics on this track. I say MC over rapping because the content of lyrics this artist uses and the way he flows with the beat. I like the switch up on this single, pretty dope.

Beatrice Eli – The Conqueror: This song has a dope beat to it; the beat honestly caught my ear. The beat is just unique from this type of music genre (Indie Pop.) The lyrical content and vocals are intense and heart felt, just giving you all a heads up. I like it.

Capital Cities –Holiday: I have always been fond of the original version of this song but this cover is pretty cool. There is an Indie Rock, Electronica feel to this song. I like it, you all should like it also; enjoy!

Dreams – Inlove.: My 2nd Jam of the Week! This song sounds like it should be background music in a movie. The feel of this song is kind of Old School Hip-Hop with a touch of Dubstep with its beats and breaks accompanied by repeated vocals. Dope-ness!

FortFairfieldWith Cosima Lamberth – Patience: This song is so freaking laid back, the female vocals just relaxes my mind to the point I am daydreaming. This is a great song to kick back to on a rainy day.

Harriet – I Slept With All Your Mothers: The title alone is awesome! The sound and feel to this song is classic like a real Rock. The lead singer’s voice is gritty and manly like a Rock song should be, cool beans.

Kanye West Featuring Sly Polaroid and Timmy G – Payback: Classic, unreleased Kanye; enjoy!

Sherell Rowe – I Told Ya: This artist was brought to my attention by my fellow PCS’er, LeRon. Introducing Sherel Rowe, I like this song because it’s very created with all the feature sounds in this song and it’s also a great club song. If you guys like this song, you can check out more form this artist at, http://soundcloud.com/sherellroweshow

Sunday Girl – Where Is My Mind (The Pixies Cover): If you love the original version of this song you will love this version. It doesn’t quite sound the same as the original but the feel of the original song is there in each lyric she utters. Classic!

The Weeknd – Outside: My Jam of the Week! This song is so, so freaking sexy! You all know I love The Weeknd! This song is so sensual and confident; every time I hear this song someone just might be getting “it” that night. Great song!

The 14th Minute – Intern (Original Mix) 2: I do love me some instrumental tracks for some reason. This beat is very upbeat and makes me happy for some reason. It’s not one of my favorite instrumental tracks because in my opinion it’s missing something to its sound but it’s damn surely a great beat.

The Belligerents – Steal Money: This is a great, catchy Indie Rock song. This song reminds of The Hives because of the sound of the lead singer’s voice and their classic usages of Rock instruments, (Drums and Gauitars.)

The Lulls In Traffic – Silver Bells Are Ringing Only Grey: This song is so somber and relaxed in the beginning and then the beat builds up and to my surprise there are MC lyrics in this song. This song is a very interesting combination of genres.

The Mothership Orchestra – London Breeze (Navigatorz Mix): This is a cool song to me because of the settle beginnings. The vocals kick in and I am rocking my body back and forth. I love the whistling part to this song. Hey, I am easy to please!

Unouomedude – Frequency (The Soundmen Remix): This is an awesome mix here, the beat is great, the vocals are good, and overall, this song is just the sh!t to my ears. I feel like I need to be on a beach listening to this song.

Chicago rock group Secret Colours is kicking off 2012 with their video for “Faust”, in support of their latest release, EP3, which is now available on bandcamp.

It’s the end of the year, and it’s time for me, LeRon, and Eric to go through all the music we’ve listened to this year, and present our lists to all of you! We’ll each give our lists for five best albums of the year, five best songs of the year, and our biggest disappointments of the year. Fair warning, this is one of our longer shows, but well worth it, if I may say so.
