Such as in Rurouni Kenshin, that manga made me happy! While others, just make me want to slap the person who edited the book upside the head. I haven't read Ohikkoshi or Lady Snowblood, but from researching online, Ohikkoshi's translator was previously affiliated with Studio Proteus, who always took care to re-touch fx. While it's also my preferred method of reading manga, it isn't anywhere near the consensus of readers, at least online. There's certainly merit to the argument that by replacing the original fx, part of the artwork is being destroyed. That said, I really am glad I read through the translation notes in Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service -- Mail has some particularly helpful ones as well, in addition to being a very good complementary series to Kurosagi. Good footnotes are a real asset--I've found them helpful for understanding series as different as <i>Dokebi Bride</i> and <i>Satsuma Gishiden</i>.
