I don't think Endo has much in common with Michael Crichton, either, other than a fondness for certain plotlines. Endo creates much more interesting, flawed, ambiguous characters than you'll find in the pages of <i>Jurassic Park</i>. But when I'm writing a review for a general audience, I try to look for a frame of reference that anyone can appreciate, and I think the comparison--plot-wise, at least--makes sense.
