Would a Price Cut for the PS3 Really Matter?

Evidently so. On Wednesday Amazon.com had a global price cut on the ps3. Don’t get so excited just yet.
The PS3 80GB SKU held a sale price of $389.99, while the 160GB model held a sale price of $479.99. The 80GB model typically sells at $399.99 and the 160GB at $499.99. That’s right a $10 price cut for the 80GB SKU and a $20 price cut for the 160GB SKU.
Would a price cut this small make a difference in sales?
Following the $20 price cut for the PS3 160GB SKU, sales increase of 104 percent to rank as the No. 122 product in Amazon’s Video Games division.
With Sony’s solid line up this year with previous releases of Killzone 2, good reviews from soon to be released inFamous and a fury of announcements to come at E3 like White Knight Chronicles, Demon’s Soul, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, M.A.G. and many more. Sony just may have a better second half of the year if they can reduce the overall price of the Playstation 3 by at least $50 if not $100. Only time will tell.
