Let me get this straight. If you had to choose between losing your wife or your mother (or aunt...whatever), you choose your mother (or aunt...whatever)!!?? That's wrong on so many levels, not to mention, a little creepy and sick. Now Marvel can save time and money by rehashing old plots and dialogue. It's takes way less effort and very little courage or creativity. It's sad how those who hate comics the most and understand them the least are the ones who get to be in charge. Marvel really should retitle it "Same Old Day."

I must say that I was not impressed that Marvel found a way to retcon Spider-Man's unveiling. As cool as Mephisto is and all, using him as a plot device to correct a perceived narrative mistake is just not classy.

Amazing it wasn't but I'll take this over the past three years of JMS's run. Taking this at face value (and ignoring the vomit inducing OMD story) it was a fun book. Something I haven't been able to say about a Spider-man title in a long time. Is this worth 9 bucks a month? I've yet to make up my mind.

...and a bad gimmick at that. 5 days later, I'm still trying to finish it, it's just....not good. Hearkening back to the woe-is-me days (didn't we see ENOUGH of that with the preceding storyline?). As much as I'd like to, I just can't get behind this retcon, I'm so not resistant to change, but this is just terrible. 15 years of marriage absolved to keep AUnt May alive? I'm not discounting that she's an integral part of Spider-Man continuity, but wasn't she like, old in 1963? A continuity nightmare, not that Marvel is all that concerned about continuity anymore....

Amazing Spider-Man #546 was nothing more then a gimmick based on fandom.

It was someone else's work from 1971 with mild modifications to make it seem new and that was the real problem with Spider-Man, the gimmicks and hype, and not the marriage which means we'll still probably get empty stories filled with fandom and hype.

If Joe and Marvel want Spider-Man to improve, then they need to improve and not expect "magic" to do everything.
