No, I haven’t forgotten…

…it’s just that there’s almost nothing about it that’s relevant to this blog. (I had to dig through over 30 pages of Google just to find this image!) Still, I plan on seeing it this weekend. Expect a write-up of some sort next week, although I will say that from what I’ve heard, the fidelity to the book is unbelievable. To its detriment? Possibly. Normally I don’t see the merit in making a film adaptation follow its source material EXACTLY, but this is not a normal film. Feel free to post your thoughts on the movie and/or the comic here.

You are so good! I was looking for a picture like this for a post that I’ve been working on…

I made a point to see Watchmen today when the little one was at school. I LOVED IT. Loved it. Loved it. I can imagine that there will be a lot of criticism – it was long and stayed so close to the comic that I’m not sure viewers unfamiliar with the graphic novel will care about some of the most faithful scenes – that overhead view of the Comedian’s casket…Dr. Manhattan’s Mars clock-thingy emerging out of the dust…

I’m sure I’ll have more to say later, but among my first impressions – although Rorschach is my favorite character in the GN, I found myself really impressed with the guy who played Dan (Nite Owl) and Dr. Manhattan. I thought that it was a bit darker and more shadowy than the comic, but that is too be expected these days.

And I’m probably the only one who will say this – but I actually missed The Black Freighter. I wish they had found a way, but I’ll wait until the special DVD.
The Black freighter DVD is now on sale at Amazon, mine is on the way! I just saw it tonite, and I enjoyed it. My date for the evening rated it a 7 on her scale. I will say that Billy Crudup did an awesome job portraying Dr. Manhattan, as well as Jackie Haley as Rorschach. The changed ending worked for the film–more reality based and didn’t leave the audience with “huh?” Has anyone seen the motion comic? The only thing I didn’t like about it is that they seem to have one one person–a guy–doing all of the voices–even the women! That part of it sucked to me. Also, did anybody notice that they didn’t even give Alan Moore his screen credit? Talk about somebody (DC/Time Warner) holding a grudge!
I know that Alan is still angry over the copyright issue with Watchmen (where DC/Time Warner gives the rights back to the creators–Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons–when they stop publishing the series) I really don’t blame him, fair is fair and justice must prevail!
Another hit for Zack Snyder!

Moore has refused screen credit on both WATCHMEN and V FOR VENDETTA (don’t recall if he was credited on LOEG or FROM HELL). He doesn’t want his name associated with this film at all and Snyder has, however reluctantly, abided by his wishes.

Thanks Adalberto! I’m off to Amazon to order my DVD now. It is really unfortunate that Alan Moore doesn’t get screen credit – despite all the issues. I’m dying to know what he thinks (that is, assuming he would even see it at all).
