‘Who?’

‘Metal face – Looks kind of like Doctor Doom.’

‘Why would you sleep with a woman who looks like Doctor Doom?’

‘Okay – Moving on…’

Normally, I’m not a big fan of Bendis dialogue, but I thought that exchange was classic.

I really love the dynamic of this book. Tony and Reed are excellent.

and the namor entrance and the line about where sue goes – total “oh shit!” moment.

Wow, Sex and the City with male superheroes, just what I’ve always wanted. Oh, this and the resurrection of the thought-balloon. Thanks Brian Michael Bendis!

I’m liking Brian Michael Bendis less and less as time goes by. There’s just something unlikable about his writing and his dialogue. I can’t put my finger on it, it’s just…I don’t know, it’s like a slimy car sales man (the 40 year old kind who were excessive amounts of gold jewellery and hit on high school girls) writing comics and being given a medium to express his flawed and ignorant worldviews.

Doctor Strange just has to know which group of ice-skating men collected more points by moving a small rubber disc into a netted area with long wooden sticks? Really? I’d never have suspected a quasi-omnipotent sorcerer who can travel to other dimensions, who has read libraries worth of occult literature, who can experience countless states of awareness, who has witnessed the creation of the universe first hand and who has studied under the Ancient One in the Himalayan Mountains to have the same taste in leisure activities as a bald, overweight comic book writer from Portland, Oregon.

So to make a character more accessible to the “everyman” we have to read comics showing Professor Xavier updating his Myspace page or the Sub-Mariner downloading game demos from Xbox Live? Oh Brian Michael Bendis, you’re just too cool.
