We’ve known for sometime that writer and director Guillermo del Toro was planning on making some moves in the videogame space and we later learned he would be taking those steps with THQ. Now the relationship has been made official with details of not one but THREE titles being part of the deal. More details after the jump.
Fans that just can’t wait to see the TRON: Legacy film can now pick the videogames up to whet their appetites.

The New Year is upon us, and we here at Popcultureshock are looking to wrangle up some new blood. (Don’t worry, your blood can stay in your body! We’re not psychos, or anything!) We need more crazy folk ’round here. We need more strong opinions on what’s going on in pop culture. We need more people to strongly disagree with those of us that are here now, from time to time!
Hot damn!!! We at it again, here on PCS! There’s a lot of bitch-worthy news out in fandom, and it’s time to see if I can hear where y’all are coming from, or if y’all are just bitchin’.

Why Green Lantern Gotta Be White?!?!
As one of my buddies pointed out, this story is equal parts hilarious and sad. Twitter went crazy a few days ago, with some fan reactions to the Green Lantern trailer expressing outrage over the fact that Green Lantern would be white in the film:
booker22 I could’ve sworn that he was black in the cartoons… Now they make a movie and turn the green lantern white…
PhaaatAlbert I love Ryan Renolds, but GREEN LANTERN WAS SUPPOSED TO BE BLACK!
gorgeous_poison i thought the green lantern was black ? yo they tripping !
madylove09 So. If I’m not mistaken, isn’t The Green Lantern black?
0h_So_LawLess: Green Lantern movie coming out. The have a white guy playing him. Smh, one of the only black superheros and they made him white. Smh.
Frizellikz_: Ok isn’t the Green Lantern sapposed to be a BLACK super hero?<=hell yea dey played us
Prissy_Coco: The Green Lantern suppose to be black right? So why am I looking at a white nigga n his suit black ppl can’t have shit”
My Take: To be fair, some fans just seem confused, while others seem very adamant in their belief that Green Lantern has always been a black character. Yes, there is a black Green Lantern named John Stewart, but are you seriously telling me that people whose knowledge of the character begins and ends with the Justice League animated series are THAT oblivious to the longstanding comic book lore? It’s not like there weren’t one or two eps in the series that featured other members of the Green Lantern Corps to help people realize that there are several Green Lanterns (four of them alone from Earth!). Even still, these folks didn’t think enough to do a quick search on Google to get enough a casual idea about the character’s history?(Hell, I just did it, and the first ten, twenty pics are of Hal freakin’ Jordan!!) Man, I swear black folk can’t wait to turn shit into a racial argument. And it’s a shame, because the popularity of Stewart skyrocketed in the comics after the Justice League series started, and clearly these are fans that made no intention of picking up a comic to see what they were doing with the character. Maybe then they’d realize that Hal Jordan’s been the most prominent Green Lantern in the comics since the late 50′s.
Verdict: Y’all are bitchin’!

Warner Bros. Plans To Reboot Buffy: The Vampire Slayer
While plans for a reboot of Buffy had been had been in the air for some time now, there seems to be real movement on a new film that will probably be a brand now take on the character. Warner Bros. optioned the rights from the producer/director team from the original Swanson film, Fran and Kaz Kuzui, with the film being written by newcomer Whit Anderson.
My Take: This is a rather tough one to call. While the idea of the film being written by someone with zero writing credits to her name is troubling, as we have no idea of how she’d adapt pre-existing source material, I wouldn’t be surprised if WB brought in a few folks to knead and massage the final script if necessary. The big issue for fans is that total lack involvement from series mastermind, Joss Whedon. True, he did show that he had a seemingly limitless wealth of imagination, crafting the character of Buffy and the world she inhabited. But if you thought Warner Bros. would let Whedon near this project, I want some of that high-powered shit that you’re smoking. Marvel hiring him to do their crown jewel Avengers film aside, Whedon is box office poison far as the rest of Hollywood’s concerned. Serenity was a great film, but nobody saw it. And couple that with two failed TV shows (one of which that got it’s second season mostly on luck). Not only is it bad for Warner Bros., it’s bad for Whedon’s reputation. How much more of a one-trick pony would he look like if he just went back to the well with his only successful creation (and “season eight” comic that’s been out the past four years started out great, but started to make less and less sense around the Late #20s)?
Verdict: The movie could actually end up being good, and y’all would still be bitchin’!!!

If the announcement of a third Toy Story didn’t warm your heart then maybe you’ve grown too old for your own good. Now 17 years old, Andy is ready to move out to college and it’s assumed that he won’t take his box of favorite toys with him.
Woody (Tom Hanks) was chosen by Andy to go to college with him but the rest of the crew including Buzz (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusak), and the others are convinced they were meant to be thrown out when Woody witnessed that they were intended to be placed in the attic.
Neither. The Toy Story gang find themselves donated to Sunnyside Day Care where they are welcomed to a place where hundreds of toys live and get played.
Lots-o-Huggin Bear (Ned Beatty) seems nice enough upon introduction but he runs a prison-like environment leaving all the newcomers in the Caterpillar room where the younger children play much rougher with the toys. Knowing he should be with Andy, Woody escapes only to be caught in the house of a little four-year old girl named Bonnie. Woody has to escape and rescue his friends and get back to Andy before he leaves.
What does Andy eventually do at the end?
There are those who thought that a third Toy Story would ruin Pixar, or at least their product. Water it down, make it feel forced or corporate but I didn’t believe it. Everything about Pixar and they way they do business, make films, and tell stories adds to the mystique and charm that’s seen through their films.
Buzz, Woody, The Potato Heads and the rest, had insecurities older audiences could relate to and the fear of mortality is a story that bears repeating in a brilliant and fresh progression, 10 years after the last time we heard Buzz Lightyear said, “To Infinity and Beyond!” Toy Story 3 has no shortage of adventure, laughs, and visuals that will have you shaking your head, amazed and in awe.
Our characters’ fate, their desire to be played, and not forgotten is not only a metaphor for aging and the working environment, but the simplicity and straight forward story of the appreciation of toys and the joy that they can bring to those who can get lost in their imagination is the magic of Toy Story. We all had something to take us back when we were young, when we obsessed, not on their limitations but their endless potential.

If you’ve been watching Law & Order SVU for its entire run thus far, you’ve long-since accepted the fact that the show is bascially Law & Order: The Moody Misadventures of a Rape Victim’s Cop Daughter, what with Detective Olivia Benson’s never-to-be-resolved daddy issues, a spotty love life that only seems to include rape and/or murder suspects and duplicitous assholes, a half-brother from her rapey daddy, and even almost getting raped herself (prison style) while undercover. Honestly, the saddest sex crime victim on the show has been Olivia Benson’s life. . . . left on the side of the road in the pre-dawn hours, near an industrial plant in New Jersey, bound at the hands and feet with electrical tape. It’s just laying there in the tall grass, breathing in the foulest of stenches, waiting to die. And I feel like last week’s episode was a bad omen of things to come for the rest of the season.
Fans of The Boondocks waiting to be able to see any episode of Season 3 at any time have to wait no longer. Aaron McGruder’s The Boondocks Season 3 releases on DVD today.
AMC has wasted no time in clearing Kirkman’s The Walking Dead for a second season.
When MGM filed for bankruptcy earlier this week, it lead many to believe that the fate of future films such as ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘James Bond 23′ were bleak to say the least. MTV is reporting that the bankruptcy has actually relieved MGM of $4 billion dollars worth of debt, thus allowing them to pursue some upcoming film projects.
