MF Grimm article

By: Rich Watson

“There’s a lot in common with comics and music, in particular the underground aspect of it… Certain songwriters, certain hip-hop artists, they’re storytellers. That’s the beauty of it. Percy has so easily moved from writing songs to writing a graphic novel. He’s a great storyteller, and he’s now found another medium to tell his stories.”

MF Grimm is the indy rapper who’s coming out with an autobiographical graphic novel next year with Vertigo (that’s Karen Berger quoted above). His is quite a story, to say the least. It will be quite interesting to see how it translates to comics.

Well, looks like Reggie Hudlin was right on this one. At the last Black Panel, he noted how hip hop would be a big influence on comics. Sure enough, DC has bucks its conservative, unhip image by publishing a bio comic on rapper MF Grimm.

The Democrats win back Congress. Now this. We really are living in interesting times.
