I thought that people had forgotten what Washington and the presidents previous did to Carter and the world. I know the “catalysts” will make their moves, plan their schemes and we will see what happens to Obama. He has such a mess to clean up, it will take him 8 years just to address all the problems!

I totally understood what aaron was saying and applaud him for having guts. I love obama but I wonder if he will be another Jimmy Carter, whom I also love. Carter has a big heart and morals, Washington ate him alive. Aaron’ criticism is very real because it is a reminder that we can’t get too caught up in the historical aspect of the new administration and neglecting the crazy ish in the world Obama is facing. lets pray he can handle it all.

Thanks for offering such a thoughtful response. (And wow, is this really you!?) As Rich noted already, your comment does provide a clearer and more nuanced context for the article’s claims. I like the distinction you make between a “common experience” and a “common history.” I hope that others will be able to recognize this too, and still be able to appreciate in the words of my favorite poet, that “Black is an open umbrella.” Here’s to more (well-informed) skepticism and dissent!
