McGruder: I got sick of Boondocks

Posted by: Rich Watson on November 22, 2006 at 11:48 pm

I suppose I could see why Aaron McGruder would’ve gotten sick of talking politics in The Boondocks after awhile, but as I recall, the strip wasn’t only political. I don’t know why he couldn’t have just shifted the focus of the strip, if only temporarily. And let’s be honest – “Bush is dumb” is a message that simply cannot be overstated or taken for granted. I dunno; this sounds to me like he ran out of ideas – at least for the strip. I agree with him, though, when he says that his TV audience is savvier than his newspaper audience, and he should totally go for that crowd if he feels that’s where his real success lies.

Could it be that he’s just a flake? I’m not hating and don’t hate me. I’m just trying to see if there aren’t more personal/personality forces afoot. Many super creative people have assholish-eccentric or narcissistic traits that tend to surface when they’re under some sort of stress, right?
