Cantarella is a good one to check out. :) Much less historical and much more fantasy, brutal and beautiful.

Excellent use of research here -- I couldn't agree more about Higuri's over-romanticization of Ludwig (particularly in the fact he never seems to age and, therefore, dies young and still beautiful).

Her Cantarella is an interesting twist in this formula -- she allows for a great deal more ugliness in her portrait of Cesare Borgia.

This is such a great review, Melinda. I think when I read for my blog my review will just consist of a URL or something. :)
