Picks of the Week, 1/21/09

By: Michelle Smith

I am quite the hoarder, as my LibraryThing catalog will attest. And one series I have been collecting is After School Nightmare. While others praised it, I waited patiently and now the tenth and last volume is finally here! I will definitely be acquiring this, and will look forward to a nightmare landscape marathon of gender identity fun.

Next on my personal list is InuYasha, Vol. 36. Okay, yes, I know the plot is on complete rinse and repeat mode. Naraku sends some minions out to wreak havoc, Inuyasha fights some people, Naraku gets away. I’m much more interested in what’s going on with the characters, all of whom I like, and the subplot with Sango’s little brother.

Oishinbo! Actually, Amazon already shipped this to me and it looks great. I love the variety that exists within seinen manga, and plan to collect all of this series.

Real, Vol. 3. And here’s some more seinen. I got this and Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service, Vol. 8 delivered on the same day. Never let it be said that I am only a shojo junkie!

And that’s my haul for this week. What’s yours?

I think your picks are right on! Though I’ve never been able to get interested in InuYasha.

It’s a hefty investment for a series that could’ve been a couple dozen volumes shorter. Still, it’s fun and I like the characters, so I can’t really be peeved about it.
