Mark your calendar! Newsarama reports that this year’s Free Comic Book Day will be held on Saturday, May 5th. In a sign of manga’s increasing market share, Tokyopop joins DC, Dark Horse, and Marvel as one of the day’s gold sponsors. Tokyopop’s freebie is a sampler featuring five of its newest shonen/seinen offerings: Archlord, Gyakushu!, Phantom, Utopia’s Avenger, and Warcraft: The Sunwell Trilogy.
Among the day’s other notable giveaways:
- Owly & Korgi: For the younger comic book fan in your house. Top Shelf offers another near-wordless installment of crowd-pleaser Owly as well as a new series about a girl and her dog. (Guess the breed!)
- The Lynda Barry Extravaganza: Publisher Drawn & Quarterly offers snippets of Barry’s best work.
- The Umbrella Academy/Zero Killer/Pantheon City: Sneak peeks at three new Dark Horse series.
- The Unseen Peanuts: Believe it or not, Fantagraphics unearthed nearly 100 Peanuts strips that have never been reprinted. My vote for best freebie of 2007.
