Who Wants To Live Forever? Apparently The Highlander Franchise Does

Aint It Cool News has word that there’s a new take on Highlander in development — not a sequel, apparently, but a reboot. I love the original Highlander movie–the cast, the concept, the action, the music, even the fact that the movie opens with a tag team wrestling match featuring the Fabulous Freebirds!
This movie–the story of decapitation-happy, sword-fighting immortals battling for dominance through the ages–was about as awesome a movie as my young self could imagine ever existing. It didn’t hurt that Clancy Brown as the Kurgan was the most badass villain I’d ever seen (that’s right, suck it, Vader).
The sequels were mostly crap, but the TV show, which was sort of a within-continuity reboot that expanded on the movie’s mythology without negating it, was pretty cool–proving wrong the franchise’s main catchphrase: “There can be only one!” Turns out there can be at least two. (I won’t get into the animated series or comic books, but they’re not so bad either.) And here’s hoping the people rebooting the franchise can make it work again.
By the power of Freddie Mercury’s moustache, I think they can!
