FOSTER CITY, Calif., Oct. 30 – Sony Computer Entertainment
America today announced the release of a new, limited edition silver
PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system in time for the year-end peak-
selling season. The new model is in stores now for a suggested retail price
(SRP) of $129.99/$139.99 CND while supplies last.
The new limited edition silver PlayStation 2 system features the same,
ultra-sleek design and functions of the current PlayStation 2 including access
to the large catalog of PlayStation 2 and PlayStation(R) software titles as
well as DVD and CD playback, digital surround sound, two memory card slots and
an integrated Ethernet port for network gaming. To complete the package a
limited edition silver DUALSHOCK(R) analog controller for the PlayStation 2 is
also included.
PlayStation 2 is the most popular gaming platform in North America,
Europe/PAL territories and Japan/Asia-the only system to enjoy such widespread
global success. The company expects the release of this limited edition
silver PlayStation 2 to fuel demand even further: to date, more than 111
million PlayStation 2 units and more than 1.12 billion pieces of software for
the PlayStation 2 have shipped worldwide, making it the fastest-selling gaming
platform on the market.
“Six years after its initial launch, the PlayStation 2 continues to enjoy
nonstop success, outselling all other consoles,” said Jack Tretton, executive
vice president, co-COO, Sony Computer Entertainment America. “The
introduction of this limited edition model is sure to be a hit this holiday
season with die-hard PlayStation fans and new gamers alike.”
