Lemme find out I gotta start payin’ attention to hip-hop brothas out in Sweden! This Adam Tensta dude is kinda nice! (And yes, there are black people in Sweden! I seent ‘em when I was there last December!)
Tensta says: “Linking up with Spoek Mathambo for this video was a blessing. You will be hearing a lot more from this creator very soon! I also wanna shout out Mr. Marcus Lundin for his always splendid vision.”
Born and raised in Long Island, New York, Jon Bellion is a genuinely cool and humble young man. He is only twenty years old yet his unique, melodic and captivating voice balances nicely against his moving and clever rapping. As if this wasn’t enough, Jon both composes and produces all of his music himself; from writing the lyrics, to the beats and the mixing. By the end of high school, Jon was investing all of his time and energy into his music and decided to attend the highly esteemed college of music and the performing arts, Five Towns College. By living on campus, Jon positioned himself in a “hot bed” of artists who shared the same passion and goals. Here, Jonathan grew as an artist and further developed his skills of producing and performing, thus establishing “Beautiful Mind Entertainment.”
Combining exceptional talent and fearless ambition, Jon Bellion is developing what he refers to as a “movement” with the launching of his project, “Beautiful Mind” that has no intentions of following the norm. “It’s not cool to be negative or stupid. We live in a time that needs enlightenment, especially with expression through music” he says. “We’re here for anyone with a beautiful mind.” His unique approach to music has afforded him the opportunity to showcase his sound at exclusive, high profile events such as the Presidential Inner Circle Pre-Grammy Party that took place in Hollywood, California. His song “Moped Girl” was also spotlighted on NBC radio’s “Tha Juke Joint” show.
Hailing from the hometown of yours truly (Montreal, in case you didn’t know), singer Jenn Mierau has released a remix of her song “Told You”, which comes courtesy of Austin-based producer, Toof. Definitely worth checking out.
In the interest of saving time, I’ll just put it out there: Kim K. is leaving pro basketball player Kris Humphries after 72 days of marriage.
Beginning with dating in December 2010, an engagement in May and walking the aisle to be married in August, let’s just go ahead and say that the turn around was a little quicker than anyone expected. The lavish televised wedding on E! as a two-part special, which nearly 4.4 million people watched on Oct. 9 and another respective and 3.98 million for Oct. 10 boils down to being all in vain (except for E! which reaped the ratings).
Kardashian has hired celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser and cites irreconcilable differences and wants the court to reject any move by Kris to get spousal support. It has been reported that the pair signed a prenuptial agreement.
After hearing the news, it only took a short amount of time before other celebrities started reacting over Twitter:
Ice-T: (@finallevel): “Wow! I just heard Kim Kardashian is getting a divorce after only 72 days of marriage???….. I bet she keeps that ring.”
Andy Cohen: (@BravoAndy): “thanks for the entertainment, Kim Kardashian.”
Piers Morgan (@PiersMorgan): “Need @kimkardashian to name @THEHermanCain as the ‘other man’ and we’re in business here, folks. #ThreeParty”
Russell Simmons (@UncleRUSH): ”I hope the best for my friend Kim Kardashian and wish she finds peace and happiness
Bill Bush (@BillyBush): “Can’t say @kimkardashian and the hump didn’t have a love WORTH anything … wow, quick but lucrative.”
This will be the second divorce for Kardashian who was previously married to music producer Damon Thomas in 2004.
Following earlier news reports about complications with laryngitis and having to reschedule concerts and appearances back in June of this year, singer Adele, 23, has opted to cancel her remaining leg of her concert tour for surgery and recovery.
The singer made the announcement on her website of the impending surgery and the necessity to cancel. The statement from her website breaks down the decision and outlines the remaining US and UK concerts that were to be affected, “[Adele] is to undergo surgery to alleviate the current issues with her throat and a full recovery is expected. As a result, doctors have ordered her to rest her voice and completely recuperate before looking to schedule any work commitments.”
For information on which dates and appearances were to be canceled, head over to Adele’s website.
Models and music rarely make for a good combination (unless they’re lip-syncing George Michael), and admittedly, I had contemplated writing off Mr. Gator here. But if the video for his debut single, “Benedict Mauvais” is any indication, he’s more than happy to play his budding music career for laughs while, quite honestly, serving up a catchy tune.
OCT. 31, 2011 (LOS ANGELES) – At Club Eleven in West Hollywood, CA Meital performed “Yummy Boyz” in front of hundreds of excited club goers for the very first time in the U.S. as part of a promotion for expanding gay dating site, Grindr.
SKAM2? teams up with TacticalSkateboarding.com to bring you sick visuals for a twisted piece of sonic mayhem. Andrew Reynolds (Baker), Peter Smolik (Skate Mafia) and Kellen James (Skate Mafia) are just a few of the heads throwing down some serious hammers in this clip vid chock-full of skate bangers, zombies and ghouls. Director Steve Celentani scores this piece with one of SKAM2?’s latest tracks, “Re+animated Cannibal” off the debut mixtape THE SKRONIK: How to Boil Vomit, out now and sponsored by HipHopDx and Public Wizard, Inc.
Active Child Featuring How To Dress Well – Playing House: The beat catches my ear on this song. Do not get me wrong, the lyrical content is very good but the beat is better. It reminds me of British White Soul, good song.
Cocanie 80’s Featuring Common – Six Feet Over: I’ve recently just checked out this mixtape called Ghost Lady by this group. The mixtape is produced by No I.D. therefore this is a dope R&B album. This song is very soulful, nice smooth sound; a bit of a change up from the R&B on the radio.
D.A. & The Super Dups – Who Do You Know: This is D.A. from the group Chester French; one of my favorite Pop groups. This song has a Reggae vibe to it but also a smooth poppy undertone to it. This is a very good song; I only wish Chester French put out more music.
Das Racist – Girl: This just MIGHT be my jam of the week. I have heard of this group before, they seem very Hip-Hop; reminds me of Da La Soul and Beastie Boys mix with their fun sound and basic but witty lyrics. I just love the feeling of this song.
Broken Social Scene – Hotel (Childish Gambino Remix): This was a song that Donald Glover submitted in 2005 to Adult Swim. Adult Swim just “found” this song and featured it during the break between shows. This is a dope mix! Donald Glover was dope before Childish Gambino. Nice!
JMSN – Alone: This just MIGHT be my jam of the week also. I don’t know what’s up with these Pop, R&B White guys being sexy on tracks. This is a very sexy, dark, sensuous song, my favorite type of music. If Justin Timberlake and The Weeknd met in the middle it would be this guy.
Kid Cudi – Follow Me: This is very interesting Cudi song, I know if I like it or not. The audio tune is a new turn for this artist but still the same emo sound to this song. Give it a listen; let me know what you think.
Kinetics & One Love Featuring Lana Del Rey – Video Games (Remix): This is a dope ass song. I was a little disappointed with the rapper’s verse in this song but with that disappointment overall the song is cool. The singing/sample/chorus is awesome! That really makes this song.
Kiriyama Family – Time Out: When I first listened to this song I really didn’t care for it but once a minute passes in this song it picks up. The keyboard in the background makes this song cool to me.
Logic Featuring Lykke – Dammit! I didn’t mean to add this again to Fresh Fridays again. Oh well, this song is so good it’s worth listening to twice.
Ludacris Featuring Big K.R.I.T. – I’m On Fire: Um, new Luda! It’s okay, I have heard better from him but hey, “Welcome back, Luda!”
Lupe Fiasco Featuring Ellie Goulding & Bassnectar – LightWork: I really don’t care for the sample Lupe is using in this song but lyrically, he is a GOD! He’s really spitting something sick on this song; great flow!
Mayer Hawthorne Featuring Snoop Dogg – Can’t Stop: This song has a classic 70’s sound to it with the sound of Mayer’s voice and the funky beat. When I heard this song come on I feel as if something cool is about to go down. With Snoop on the track makes this a lovely song.
Example – Midnight Run (Flux Pavilion Remix): When the beat drops on this song…“Oooooooooh wee!” Flux Pavilion really had done a great job on this track. This song is very head rocking.
Wale Featuring Big Sean – Slight Work: This beat is crazy dope beat! Diplo really made an insane Hip-Hop beat for someone that doesn’t do much Hip-Hop. This song is worth the beat alone; Wale and Big Sean’s lyrics are well enough, could have been a little better. This song is dope for the beat only. Pat yourself on the back Diplo. Good job!
NEW YORK – October 27, 2011 – VH1’s beloved, popular franchise, “VH1 Divas,” returns and will pay tribute to the cities where soul gave birth to music’s most powerful classics and inspired today’s divas. Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Jill Scott, Florence + The Machine, Kelly Clarkson and Jessie J will pay homage to these cities and soul music’s timeless classics at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom. “VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul” premieres Monday, December 19 at 9 PM/8c on VH1.
“This year’s telecast will showcase the vast impact soul music has had on the 21st century’s music and pop culture landscape as our talented and diverse lineup will attest,” said Lee Rolontz, EVP, Original Music Production & Development, VH1 and VH1 Classic. “This year’s ‘Divas’ offers a modern twist on soul music, all while tipping its hat to the legacy of key cities that created this musical heritage.”

The cities honored include: Chicago, Detroit, London, Memphis and Philadelphia. Accompanied by one of the most exciting groups of modern soul, The Roots, with Questlove as musical director, each diva will pay tribute through not only their own soul-inspired songs, but some of the greatest classics that have shaped a genre.

Previous featured performers over the years included Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Cher, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Chaka Khan, Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Hudson, Leona Lewis, Jordin Sparks and numerous others have graced the “VH1 Divas” stage.
“VH1 Divas” is executive produced by Greg Sills for Chloe Productions and Lee Rolontz, Rick Krim for VH1.
