I want to be excited, and, well, I am excited. Left 4 Dead is an awesome game, and one of the finest multiplayer experiences I’ve had on Xbox Live. However, on the eve of Left 4 Dead 2, I can’t help but wonder why the Valve team hasn’t released more campaign content during the lifespan of this original game. With no Mall level or any of the PC/User-created campaign levels added to the Xbox 360 game, I think Valve might’ve missed the boat. At 560 MS points per download, hungry fans, and a near endless multiplayer experience, we’re talking damn near impulse purchase for thousands of fans. I’d have certainly bought any new map released. As is, grab Crash Course on Xbox Live and Steam, right now. Shiny new audio lines from the voice actors, new achievements, and additional story beats make this 560 points well spent…

I’m happy to have new Left 4 Dead content, just not totally stoked that Crash Course is it. I wrote about the Crash Course DLC here, but it just surprises me that full-time Valve employees fell short where guys who work on mods/campaigns in their free time can make excellent 5-chapter campaigns. I’m not buying the “we always had this in development” story…but I’m still buying Left 4 Dead 2. What does that say about me?
