by "Trinity," i did not mean the miniseries by Wagner, but instead the scene where the Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are voting. does the voting take place in the past and the attacks later, or what?

i understand that Reddy is a nickname that's been in use forever, but for Batman to use it seems out of character and forced in his current incarnation.

Agree with most of what you said. Just wanted to point out to Adan that "Reddy" has been Red Tornado's nickname almost since his first appearance. Batman has called him that multiple times in those old JLA "classic era" stories, as did Superman, Firestorm, Wonder Woman, Hal, Barry and all the rest. Meltzer is not responsible for that nickname.

As for deciding the fate of the JLA, one thign that's clear in this New Earth is that, like with Pre-Crisis, the JLA here was basically formed under the guidance of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. And Batman and Superman were seen in several stories (Ostrander's INCARNATIONS and Waid's MID-SUMMER'S NIGHTMARE) as the people who were the architects for the Morrison era team and beyond. Also, in New Earth like in Pre-Crisis, the three of them were around before most of the major heroes of the "modern age", so in this new continuity I think people expect them to have the sense of directional control that they seem to. And since they seem to be the only ones who are truly serious about reforming the team, it makes sense they would vote on who they keep in and out. The only thing that felt weird to me on that end was that they would vote on each other.

That isn't to say I wouldn't love a "Where have you been for a year?" scene with Arsenal and Black Lightning asking those very questions.

Trinity definitely took place in the past compared to this, months before the original Justice League of America formed. And I agree, it'd be nice to have some more development and interaction rather than hitting us with everything at once. It's getting so that I feel I need a scorecard adn that's never good, particularly when you're starting a new series that should also be directed at grabbing new readers.

While I think Red Tornado is one of those characters who is very interesting when handled right (but that seldom happens), I have to say I find it annoying that his adopted daughter now seems to be seven years old again when YOUNG JUSTICE had her entering high school age. SIGH.

Not that wikipedia is the arbiter of all knowledge and without fault, but:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Comet

excerpts (note the words and phrases "costume" and "fight crime", as well as his having two different names, one of them normal, and one of them colorful.)

"Captain Comet (Adam Blake) is a fictional DC Comics superhero created by writer John Broome and artist Carmine Infantino."

"Captain Comet is a mutant metahuman born a hundred thousand years before his time. His "metagene" is triggered by a comet shining its light upon him at birth. His powers include Telepathy, telekinesis, clairvoyance, electrokinesis, a genius-level intellect, superhuman strength and endurance, and invulnerability.
Blake discovers his unique abilities while he is growing up, but he first uses his skills to fight crime as an adult. He intervenes when criminals attempt to steal an advanced scientific device invented by his friend, physics Professor Emery Zackro. After this adventure, Blake decides to become a superhero on a full-time basis, creating his own costume and fighting various threats."

I love your column, guys. Until Tokyopop starts publishing Criminal from right to left so as to aid Adan's comprehension, keep up the good work!

actually, Comet doesn't have a secret identity. and i believe he's appeared in Mystery in Space (the original; not this one), so he's not appeared only in superhero comics (also L.E.G.I.O.N., but i'm sure people will complain if i say this is not superhero). so there.

also, some comics read from right to left. they are from Japan and are called things like 'Love Roma' and 'Death Note.' so there, again.

You're all about Brube's UNCANNY, but you "don't know" about CRIMINAL? Adan, some friendly advice: the pages read left to right, and if everyone is always standing on the ceiling, that means you're holding the comic book upside down.

Also, by definition of having a costume, secret identity, special powers, and having only ever appeared in superhero comics, Captain Comet is a superhero. Therefore his book would not be a very good example of a non-superhero book.

Snarkily yours,
That Dude Who Says Crazy Stuff

your review of superman confidential may be a little too presumptious. lois does not know who he is. he was trying to impress her by taking her to france, he only wrapped his cape around her. nothing about those pages hinted at her knowing his secret. it may not exactly be the kryptonite talking, it may be brainiac are the eradicator wrapped in it. we don't know yet it was a set-up issue.

jla #3 wasn't as bad as the last 2. the sublots aren't hard to follow and very obviously connected. and the big three is still respected as the best the heroes have to offer, regardless of their year-long vacation(haven't they earned at least a year off?) so that's why no-one questions them.

i admit meltzer's slow. but he's going somewhere with it. it's already better than identity crisis.
