You call me a whiny guy that can't get a girl and then call it constructive criticism?

Here's some constructive criticism for you: go fuck yourself.

Firstly in the Local review Laura gives away the plot of the book, while simultaneously complaining about being forced to give away the plot of the book. What? Yes, it’s all very meta to discuss the column within the column, but honestly, if you don’t want to include spoilers, complain about it outside of the column and then rewrite it so that there aren’t any!

I think you vastly overestimate our ability to control each other on any level.

Your criticisms are thoughtful, though, and appreciated.

Hey, I know I'm late to the party here, but I felt compelled to comment. PPAS is usually a great read. It's what keeps me coming back to this site, and your reviews are pretty trustworthy and have introduced me to some great comics (as well as warned me about the terrible ones).

But I was not really into this particular edition. Basically, you need to edit your column better! Writing in a conversational style is fine, but if the column includes all the wild tangents and unfocused side-tracking of an actual conversation, it doesn't make for a paricularly good read, and only dulls the impact of any good points you do make.

To illustrate:

Firstly in the Local review Laura gives away the plot of the book, while simultaneously complaining about being forced to give away the plot of the book. What? Yes, it's all very meta to discuss the column within the column, but honestly, if you don't want to include spoilers, complain about it outside of the column and then rewrite it so that there aren't any!

And jeez, guys, the She-Hulk argument reads like something I'd see on a message board -- longwinded, misguided and ultimately fairly tedious. I think Laura made a valid point about the "sloppy seconds" line initially -- as a line of dialogue it paints female sexuality pretty negatively. But the eleven or so paragraphs of argument that followed should never have seen the light of day. The argument is not relevant to the review in the slightest (and by the way, Adan, sorry dude, but your "why do girls date assholes?!" argument is completely weak. That's the excuse that whiny guys use when they can't get a girlfriend and want to blame anything and anyone other than themselves), so what is it doing there?

As I said before, I do enjoy reading your column -- just trying to provide some constructive criticsm!

(side note - these reviews are always great and a must read on Thursdays!)

Dude, you gotta read us on Wednesdays so that you know what everyone's talking about on Thursdays, otherwise, it'll get ruined for you. We're like Lost that way.

"There’s a difference between “worrying what the whold world thinks” and saying that the status quo is full of crap, which it is. Shutting up about inequality just enables it."

I really find it interesting how the whole argument of Jen sleeping around got started and evolved into issues of mens' sluttyness vs. womens' sluttyness.

The point in the comic was that Wolverine wouldn't sleep with Jen because she slept with one specific person. Wolverine didn't call her a whore nor did he say she had slept with too many people. He just has a grudge against one guy - Juggernaut.

We've all known someone who had hooked up with someone of questionable character, and then the image of said person is then forever altered.

And it's also interesting that it may be the case in Local - where the girl is running around from city to city, sleeping with different guys in an attempt to "find herself" and no one is directly calling her a slut. No one is pointing a finger even though they probably could. It's not addressed - and correctly so - because it isn't the point. Her problem is a much deeper and more personal one. I've known many a girl like her and my problem wasn't with the number of partners they've had, it was that they were profoundly confused. - but that's a whole 'nother issue.

To reiterate: I don't think the issue of damaged goods shouldn't be addressed, I just don't think it applies to the case of Wolverine not wanting to sleep with Jen. Juggernaut is the problem.

Maybe the problem was in how he said it - which was delivered for comedic purposes but was left open for a negative interpretation.

what if brian wood wrote about a confused jennifer walters running around from town to town and one time she happened to sleep with trying-to-be-a-good-guy cain marko. doing stuff like that is believable and it's real life like laura said. but frank tieri wrote the two getting it on just for kicks i guess, so we end up having stupid discussions about it =/

if b-wood wrote that, everybody would be saying it was a good believable story. even adan would give it a compliment like "B-Wood doesn’t put any Commie propaganda in this book, so that’s a major plus."

It was totally the point for Wolverine. That's how much he hates Juggernaut.

And yes there is a double standard for women. But instead of worrying about what the whold world thinks and trying to change everyone's mind, I think it more important to focus on yourself (one's self) and act responsibly. - I'm not saying anyone here hasn't.

"Women of the world, stop dating assholes!"

Isn't that why there are assholes out in the world?

They certainly aren't marriage material, they are just there to show us how stupid we are in our twenties, thirties, whatever....

The evidence is damning, though.....all the furniture was busted up, I mean, they just weren't busy, they were friggin' multi-tasking. Maybe they didn't have sex, yet...Maybe that's her idea of foreplay.....busting up hotel rooms....

Civil War 7, you ugly, red-headed bastard. Your six older siblings were tolerable at best, but you... you... YOU!

Joe Quesada should have bashed you on the head with a rock when you slithered out of Mark Millar's vagina!

What's with Reed's man-crush on Spidey? What's with Spidey's man-crush on Spidey? What's with Luke Cage's man-crush on Spidey's sexy outfit?

And don't get me started with Captain Gilmore Girls. After all the shit hitting fan after fan after fan, he ends his fight with Iron Douche by crying for a cleenex.

I think that was the perfect metaphor for suckers like me: we all needed a good pillow-biting cry with an ending like that.

Good thing the Punisher was there to pick up his mask and sniff it in the privacy of his hotel room next to a bottle of hand lotion and a box of tissues.
