Keith Knight interview (excerpt)

“I probably kept my hostel job longer than I needed to, partly because you could work part-time there and they’d give you health insurance. And just because it was a fun job. At some point they kind of fired me, in a nice way. They told me, ‘You work here one day a week, and then you call in sick half the time.’ I’d get someone to cover for me, because I was going on tour with the band, or I had something else going on. Once I left that, I had that feeling like, ‘Oh, no, they’ve taken the net away. I’m swinging up here, I’m all alone and there’s no net.’ But after you do it, you realize, ‘Oh, OK, I could’ve done this two years ago.’ That happened in 2000, I think, or 1999, where I went completely with my comics. I haven’t looked back. Livin’ the good life…”
