Guilty Pleasure this one. It’s called, “I MAED A GAM3 W1TH ZOMBIES 1NIT!!!1” And yes, that’s really the title of the game. I heard about it from Destructoid.com. It’s 80 MS points, which basically comes up to a whopping dollar. I’m thrifty lately, so that’s just about the right price point.

Sometimes gamers have an odd sense of humor that doesn’t translate to the masses. When I’d heard that this was a twin-stick shooter with a “hilarious” theme song, my first thought was, “You gamer white guys crack me up”.

Truth is, the song is hilarious. The developer(s) at Ska Studios gambled that the best way to sell this is to keep ‘em laughing, and if you listen closely to the lyrics in the game’s background music, the guys pretty much tell you what to do, what to watch out for, and how to play.

All told, it’s a pretty competent twin-stick shooter. Controls are very responsive and the screen’s pretty litter-free of HUD or overly-complicated gimmicks. What it does correctly is fill the screen with hordes of enemies, offers about 4 power-ups (single shot, rocket, triple shot, trick weapon) plus health boost, and keeps the energy insanely high.

Enemy hordes play like a mash-up of Geometry Wars meets Smash TV. Geometric diamonds, zombies, gelatinous goo, and ‘angry faces’ get tossed in waves without rhyme, reason, or story, and, bless their hearts, the devs don’t even try for an explanation. Maybe the game offers more, but I’ve yet to survive past the 7th wave of zany madness. Good shit.

I MAED A GAM3 W1TH ZOMBIES 1NIT!!!1 pulls you in with the laughs. It’s cheap, player co-op will definitely spruce up your weekend, and you might screw around and find yourself enjoying this impulse purchase because of the solid work beneath it. . .

…and it’s a damn Dollar. Get it.
