SYNOPSIS
On a future lunar colony squabbled over by a variety of Earth nations, the teenage son of the new chief administrator must find his way, contending with both the alien environment and the native kids who see him as an interloper.
QUOTABLE
Stuart Moore at Newsarama:
“…Earthlight is very much in the mold of the classic Robert Heinlein ‘juvenile’ novels like Red Planet and Have Spacesuit, Will Travel — which were always read and enjoyed by adults, too. It’s heavily inspired by the Canadian TV series Degrassi, too, both the original and Next Generation…
“I’ve been wanting to do a near future, hard science fiction story for a while — something very rooted in current social trends and technology. And I love high school stories. Earthlight really came together when I realized that life on a moon colony would be very difficult and tense — so the adults really wouldn’t have much time for their kids. The teenagers would be on their own, even more than usual; they really have to solve their own problems. And any little mistake they made might turn out to be fatal.”
SAMPLE REVIEW
“…First off notice how beautifully drawn this title is. Artist Christopher Schons really pulls out a nice tour de force of visual splendor and manga beauty that just looks good. Stuart Moore, as the writer, takes what could have been a simple teen angst in space book and gives it a bit more depth which makes it more than just a cookie cutter alsoran sci-fi teen epic, from the grave tidings of it’s opening volley through the relationship woes of newcomer Cole to Earthlight, to a shocking end when one of the cast turns out to be a ‘terrorist’ and holds the world hostage… but is his/her reason for this really what he/she says it is? Or is there more to this than meets the eye? The book ends with you wondering just what the heck is going to happen next… which should bring you right back here when the next volume hits wanting more.” – David Rasmussen, Anime Boredom
