Variety is reporting that South African director Gavin Hood has been tapped to direct the X-Men spin-off, Wolverine, for 20th Century Fox. Earlier this year, Hood’s film Tsotsi won an Academy Award for best foreign film.

Working from a screenplay by David Benioff (Troy), production on Wolverine should begin in November, with release sometime in 2008.
