Because we consider ourselves a really great group of guys here at PopCultureShock, we’re gonna give you the lowdown on how to get the dynamic theme for Naughty Dog’s critically buzzed The Last of Us.

As you may have already been aware, this week’s PSN update was supposed to feature a free PlayStation 3 dynamic theme for Sony’s latest exclusive title. Well, after some (slight) disappointment for the missing freebie in the store update, we’ve uncovered a way to get it! And, it’s totally painless…

Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC recently announced The Last of Us, a new franchise created exclusively for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.  Developed by Naughty Dog, the creators of the highly acclaimed and best-selling UNCHARTED™ series, The Last of Us was unveiled in a world premiere trailer at the Spike TV 2011 Video Game Award Show.

The Last of Us is a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven story about a population decimated by a modern plague. Abandoned cities are being reclaimed by nature and the remaining survivors are killing each other for food, weapons and whatever they can get their hands on. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States.

To get your free theme,, head on over to PlayStation’s Facebook page and follow their instructions ['Like' The Last of Us, watch the trailer, get your code].

Easy as 1-2-3!

Anarchy Reigns will be getting a delay.

Sega put out the word that Platinum Games’ current project will have to move back to July 3, 2012. No solid reason was given for the move but it’s probably most likely more time for development and tweaking.

Announced for release for PS3 and Xbox 360, Anarchy Reigns is an online beat ‘em up from the group responsible for MadWorld, Bayonetta and Vanquish. ”Anarchy Reigns brings a new take to the brawler genre and we have decided to take a little more time to deliver the full knockout punch. I can’t reveal much now, but it has something to do with scale. Let’s just say traditional one-on-one or two versus two fighters will be a thing of the past,” said Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA West.

Featuring Jack Cayman (hero of MadWorld) and his Gator Tooth retractable double chainsaw mechanical arm, Anarchy Reigns is the fifth title Platinum is working on with SEGA publishing.

If these numbers indicate anything, it’s that gaming is still a serious commodity in an upside-down economy. Both hardware and software delivered some fantastic sales figures for the month of November but now, as we’re already a full week into December, Holiday shopping is headed for critical mass with two weeks left before Christmas.

Here’s a look at the software ranks (sorry, we couldn’t grab hard numbers for these):

  1.  1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (360, PS3, Wii, PC)
  2.  2. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (360, PS3, PC)
  3.  3. Battlefield 3 (360, PS3, PC)
  4.  4. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (360, PS3, PC)
  5.  5. Just Dance 3 (Wii, 360)
  6.  6. Madden NFL 12 (360, PS3, Wii, PSP, PS2)
  7.  7. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (PS3)
  8.  8. Saints Row: The Third (360, PS3, PC)
  9.  9. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii)
  10. 10. Batman: Arkham City (360, PS3, PC)

In a world that’s completely gaga about MW3, it’s very impressive to see Battlefield 3 in the top 3 best-sellers for the month of November. What’s even more impressive is that console exclusives Uncharted 3 and Zelda: Skyward Sword managed to stay in the game game while surrounded by powerhouses like Assassin’s Creed, Madden 12 and Skyrim.

Hardware numbers paint a very clear picture:

  1. 1. Xbox 360 | 1.7 Million*
  2. 2. PS3 | 900k*
  3. 3. Wii | 860k
  4. 4. 3DS | 795k
  5. 5. DS | 350k

[*apparently the numbers aren't 100% set in stone yet for some companies]

Hats off to Microsoft for a calendar month on sales for the 360 which grabbed 49% of the market share and was up 23 percent – nearly double the sales of all other consoles in November. Sony confirmed that “the PS3 saw a 70% increase in hardware and a 30% increase in software year-over-year”. Nintendo put up great sales numbers thanks to a big help of the Mario/Zelda bundles.

We can’t wait to see how the numbers turn out once December is done and over with.

Ukrainian developer GSC Game World has reportedly been shut down today by its founder and CEO, Sergei Grigorovich.

No reason for the move was given, but reports first showed up from a Ukrainian news website of the studio’s closure and news of the closure has been further confirmed via news blogs and Twitter. Founded in 1995 GSC Game World developed a number of games but are best known for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, which was announced last year, was currently being worked on by the studio but with the news it pretty much has been put on the shelf (or cancelled if you need to hear the truth).

If you own an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, you may want to swing to iTunes or the App Store and snag yourself a free copy of Mirror’s Edge which is free for today only.

This isn’t a port of the original game from 360/PS3. It’s a 3rd-Person platformer with some pretty high ratings and a nice control scheme. Free is free, so give it a try!

After the delayed Xbox 360 Dashboard Update rolled out, consumers everywhere found something waiting for them when they sparked up their systems -- an end agreement preventing the launch of class action lawsuits on Microsoft.

The new clause states that should any dispute arise where “informal negotiations have failed”, Xbox Live users will be required to submit to binding arbitration. Plain speak: Users are giving up their right to take Microsoft to court or be part of a class action. Xbox Live users must also agree that the firm’s liability in any dispute will amount to only $5 for Gold members, and zero for Xbox Live Silver members.

“You can recover from us for all successful claims only direct damages up to a total amount equal to your Service fee for one month,” reads the agreement. “You cannot recover any other damages, including consequential, special, indirect, incidental, or punitive damages and lost profits.”

The limited liability claim is in reference to: “services, loss of data, viruses, breach of contract, misrepresentation, omission, and negligence.”

“Nothing in these terms will exclude or restrict liability for death or personal injury arising from our negligence, fraud, gross negligence, or willful intent,” the agreement continued.

Ultimately, Microsoft is going the same route chosen by Sony and Electronic Arts. There’s arguments that this is not entirely legal in some states (undecided would be a better word for it) and this move by MSFT and the other mentioned companies basically maneuvers consumers into removing their right to keep these companies in check when there’s wrongdoing found out. Let it be known that you can still take Microsoft to court over a dispute, but the clause prevents you from taking part of any class action lawsuits.
