Gabe Soria and Life Sucks

There’s a new GN out now called Life Sucks, which is kind of a cross between Clerks and The Lost Boys. The main character is this young dude who’s a vampire, but because he’s beholden to his master, he works the late shift at an all-night convenience store and is always broke. It’s really cool – it’s illustrated by Incognegro’s Warren Pleece (who is on some kind of amazing roll right now – I hope he gets more projects like these). It’s co-written by Jessica Abel, who’s like the Parker Posey of indy comics – respected veteran creator who always does challenging, unique projects that are outside the mainstream.
It’s also co-written by this new guy named Gabe Soria. This brother’s tiny bio in the back of the book says he’s written Batman Adventures as well as done some fiction and journalistic writing. Here’s a good interview with him in which he talks about Life Sucks.
I suspect most people will regard this more as a Jessica Abel book, since she’s the bigger name and it reads much like her other stuff, like Artbabe and La Perdida. Regardless of how much Soria contributed to the story, though, he’s worth mentioning here. Go buy Life Sucks; it’s a terrific story.

Gabe is very cool and actually wrote for PCS back in the day. He came over with Joe D after Psycomic shut down (for the second time) before moving on gigs in the Maxim empire like Blender and god knows what else. Very cool to see him pop up with Jessica Abel and Warren Pleece!
