Firestorm cancelled

Issue #35 will be the last issue. Dwayne McDuffie admits he knew all along he was writing the final arc. The fans respond.
Given the mountain of opposition this book faced long before the first issue was released from Ronnie fans pissed that this was gonna be a new character instead, it’s really a miracle Firestorm lasted as long as it did. One issue shy of three years – you think Marvel would’ve let it last this long?
Supposedly DC still has plans for Jason, but it’s a shame this book’s ending right as I thought it was beginning to hit its stride. Stuart Moore and Jamal Igle made for a dynamite team, as did Dan Jolley and ChrisCross before them, and they all made a solid effort at making Jason as three-dimensional a character as possible. Three years in today’s unforgiving market is not too bad, all things considered, but I do think it’s a premature death.

I’m actually really bummed about Firestorm being canceled. I thought it was a really fun book and I agree with you that they always had some really great teams on the book. I’m excited for what Mr. McDuffie has to offer, but, I really did love Stuart Moore’s and Jamal Igle’s work.

My biggest gripe about Firestorm’s cancellation was that DC never really PROMOTED the book after its first issue. I don’t recall any print ads in DC’s various titles for the series. And why did DC wait until Firestorm was cancelled before they publishing a trade?
Does this make any business sense?
And you see DC make the same mistake over and over again.
I wish DC’d take notes from Marvel, who uses every trick in the book (ads, popular creators, crossovers, etc.) to draw attention to even “B-list” heroes. This explains why sales of comics like Black Panther have defied naysayers’ expectations.
