I love FFXI! I played it from the very beginning, and maxed out every job in the game. But it took a very long time.

Then I sold my account (for quite a bit of money) and decided to try a different MMO that was a little more casual and less time consuming. After paying for playing quite a few different popular MMOs, I finally gave in and went back to FFXI.

It's a lot of work, but I was more willing to start over from the very beginning of FFXI with zero quests done and zero jobs leveled, then waste my time playing any of the other MMOs that I had tried and found so disappointing.

I've played FFXI since 2003 on and off. I've played WoW and a few other MMOs but there is always something about FFXI that pulls me back.

I agree with many of the posters here that it does take too much time to get anything done in the game. I love grouping with players to level but I hate waiting for a party. That has always been FFXIs biggest flaw IMO...if you like a melee job like Samurai or Dragoon, without a static group you'll most likely end up waiting for a long time.

And NM/HNM camping....This is the biggest waste of time in the game. Waiting 4-5 hours for a Spawn that has a crap drop rate...who was the one that thought of that?

There are many things in FFXI that I love and miss, especially the friends I've made over the years, but I'm out of College now and just don't have the time it requires.

I really wish SE would realize, especially if they develop a new MMO to makes things a bit more casual friendly.

If you are a new player looking into to play FFXI, my advice is to find a good linkshell, otherwise you won't enjoy the game as much.

FF11 forces conformity.. Though many NA, EU, AU, NZ, and even a large Turkish community on this game.

Plays it and tries to cope with it by keeping their individuality.

This game almost exclusively caters to the Japanese fan base. I mean I laugh at American teens that wear T-shirts declaring themselves to be Otakus.
When they hate FFXI.

That is the definition of an Otaku. Overrate a game,a nd make it a pain to do something due to some small group of elites that played the game during the BETA.
My beef with the game is that the penalties are too steep, and the story line is too slow.. People tell me "it is just more worth it once you get to see the cutscene."

Yea I'm not spending 3 months which would be almost 40 bucks to see 1 fucking cutscene.
*unsubscribes*
FFXI took all the elements of what makes a good game fun, and threw it in the furnace.

I'm sorry but SE when they made this game. Lost all appeal to many NA and EU casual gamers, and hell even the hardcore gaming nerds in western cultures hate this game after awhile.

This game serves exclusively to the Otaku fan base.

I'm sorry, but FFXI just doesn't have the chops to compete with better MMO's out there. :/ World of Warcraft is solo friendly, has good content that doesn't require you to camp mobs AT all. No more sitting around "pulling" mobs just to level. Leveling is all quest based, you do quests to improve, not just for faction.

FFXI has a japanese grinding mentality that forces conformity to the superior players and serves very few. The lack of solo play makes it so that nobody breaks the mold unless someone allows it, and in this way all MMO's are similar, but in WoW there is ALWAYS an alternative than to follow someone elses rules.

It's an MMO that allows you to do content with up to 40 people, or just with your best friend at your side. There is a reason it's the number 1 MMO on the market. I'm not even a fan boy, these are just facts. I quit WoW months ago, because 3 years is enough time to get sick of a game, but FFXI I played for almost as long prior, and I have to tell you. WoW was a breath of fresh air.

You will miss the community, but the only reason the FF community as as close as it is, is because it has to be. It has little choice. Friendship should not be based on gameplay shackles. It should be based on desire, a passion to fight and play together.

WoW's greatest weakness is it's PvP. It's not too refined, but even that is lightyears ahead of FFXI.

Trust me, FFXI was a good game and continues to serve those that play it. However becoming a new player at this point in the game? I would call it masochistic. SE's expansions are aimed for veterans and not new players for a reason. They know the time for new blood is over, time is running out for that game.

It's sad, I have fond memories of it... but that's life. Soon WoW will be overtaken by a game with better PvP and strong PvE elements, with solo and party based mechanics. Such as the new Warhammer which is going to shake the MMO world. Till' then, you cannot lose with that game. It's designed for the player to have fun in whatever style he or she chooses, and you can't go wrong with that. Even with it's flaws.

I'll miss the linkshells, and I definitely will miss hanging around with the Japanese which I think are awesome. However it's time to move on.

No, do not get this game. Play warcraft if you want to play an online game.. there's a reason it owned all the market share. I played FFXI for a year and looking back I can't believe it. It was like beating my head on a wall. There's no casual playing. It either has to consume your life, or you can't progress.

I think it IS worth getting. I have played for just under two years, with a 9 month break in the middle (I got married). Since getting back into it, I have enjoyed it quite a bit. I agree that it could be made easier, and that it would be nice to have more ability to solo. However, making it too much easier is going to change the game into something it isn't. As more people reach 75, we need more areas for them to expand to. What is someone supposed to do when they get every job to 75? Is that supposed to be the end of the game for them? I'm glad to see new expansions, and to know there won't be a limit or an end to this game.

Hey I was wondering if this game is worth getting at all. I've had my eye on it for months but never got around to getting it, but I want to now, I just want to know, is it worth getting anymore? People have been saying a lot of negative things about it. Please let me know.

This is why I really hate NM and HNM camping. Also, the whole traveling to get to an area where they spawn, only to get there to have some bastard log on and steal it away not for personal use but to sell or whatever...is not really my definition of "fun times".

i think that this game is a great MMORPG but i think that the game is to hard for a single player... most players have to get a group of 6-18 people to get them on item. and the fact that it takes 3 hours or more for some NM's to spawn wtf is up with that i can see waiting for 3 hours for a NM to spawn and then i get it but when there is 5 people camping a NM that spawns every 3 hours and there is not even 100% drop rate you could take 20+ hours for a item... i meen think about it spending 20+ hours trying to get one item just siting there in one spot. Also i think that if you are going to try and make more solo jobs like pup you need to make the mage puppets cure other puppets so that puppet masters can duo as one the whm and one the tank.....

I can especially when they charge you 13 bucks for an acct and then those additional ones for mules. They're making a lot of money and now they're trying to convince us to stay longer with a new expansion for new half-ass areas?

This game has been here for 5 years, I wished they put a little more effort into improving it. I do know it's an online game and it can't be rendered as well as an offline game, but nonetheless I think they should at least try. Especially, when half of the missions/quests you do or even exclusive battles are reserved for 6 party members. You would think they would make these cutscenes a little more top tier.

I agree, FFXI has a bunch of issues. Most of which result in the fact that Final Fantasy has always resolved around being a team based game. Rarely in any FF game are you by yourself. As far as the colours are concerned a solo based RPG with very limited online play I.E NeverWinter Nights and what not can use expensive textures and bump mapping, they don't really need to be concerned with people's computers since the online world for them won't consist of millions of players. Where as games like FFXI, WoW and EQ have to use less detail and colours and what not to compensate for the shear amount of players on their servers. Yes WoW is a much more prettier game than FFXI, but WoW has solid colour textures with little shading and even less bump mapping. FFXI has detailed armor pieces with pretty good bump maps and diverse texturing in some areas. Except whoever designed Qufim Island should be shot, I still can't believe they havn't fixed the texturing problems near the tower. But to the point, although the characters in a game like FFIX aren't nicely modelled, maily because it's a PS1 game, the world was still alot more colourful than that of FFXI and FFVII come pretty close as well. I agree they could beef up the look of FFXI a bit, but there's not much more they can do, for an MMORPG it does look good, but you can't really compare it to a single player RPG since they have more resources they can blow on texturing. That's my 2 cents.

I agree, FFXI has a bunch of issues. Most of which result in the fact that Final Fantasy has always resolved around being a team based game. Rarely in any FF game are you by yourself. As far as the colours are concerned a solo based RPG with very limited online play I.E NeverWinter Nights and what not can use expensive textures and bump mapping, they don’t really need to be concerned with people’s computers since the online world for them won’t consist of millions of players. Except whoever designed Qufim Island should be shot, I still can’t believe they havn’t fixed the texturing problems near the tower.
