Ejiofor, Ashitey in Children of Men

Posted by: Rich Watson on December 20, 2006 at 10:09 pm

There’s this new movie coming out Christmas Day called Children of Men which envisions a future in which humanity is unable to produce children. The last pregnant woman is found and has to be protected before the Bad Guys get her – you know how it is. It stars Clive Owen and Julianne Moore, but it also features a couple of black actors in crucial roles.

Here are two interviews with Chiwetel Ejiofor, recently seen in Joss Whedon’s Serenity. Here he plays the leader of a radical political group. And here’s a brief interview with newcomer Clare-Hope Ashitey, who plays the last pregnant woman.

There’s quite a bit of good buzz around this film. I’ll probably see it and let you know how it is afterward.

The fate of humanity lies in the womb of a black woman! Now that’s what I’m talkin’ ’bout!

Chiwetel is become one of the premier actors and craftsmen out there. Too bad in America, we still want our black clownish, buffoonish, and preferably with a touch of ghettofabulocity. On in America can white people proclaim Will Smith our best dramatic black actor, and Ice T as our most “edgy.” Day-um.
In sheer emotion, I’d stack Chiwetel’s portrayal of a n anguished father in Tsunami: The Aftermath against Will’s feelgood stuff in Happyness.

(maybe Will can redeem himslef in my eyes when he does the remake of Charlton Heston’s The Omega Man (is it called I am Legend? any info on that?)

Since when did white people proclaim Will our best Dramatic actor. Have they gotten off Denzel’s jock already? As for Ice-T, as much as I enjoy him on Law & Order: SVU, I’ve never seen many mags praising him above other black actors, so I don’t know where you’re getting your facts from.

Down Kayode. Down…that’s it…be calm. ;) I’m talking about reviews of will Smith by folks like Joel Siegel, Larry King, fans and the MANY white folks I know. Likewise with Ice T. I’ll drop a footnote next time…

Yeah. Well, it isn’t a remake of the movie, they are both from a book entitled I Am Legend. This one is actually going to be closer to the source material.
