Egyptian graphic novelist on trial

Posted by: Rich Watson on April 1, 2009 at 6:33 pm

“Human rights organizations expressed their condemnation of the trial of Magdi El-Shafei, author of the first Egyptian graphic novel ‘Metro,’ and his publishing company, who face charges of ‘publication and distribution of publications contrary to public morals’ at Cairo Misdemeanor Court.

“The case is to take place on April 4, and could lead to their imprisonment for two years. Human rights organizations strongly condemned persecuting a literary text before a criminal court.”

Plus: The Wire star Idris Elba may appear in Sylvain White’s The Losers.
