Edison Chen Sex Scandal
Posted by: kayode on February 22, 2008 at 2:08 pm
So apparently, Hong Kong film star Edison Chen (The Vampire Effect, Infernal Affairs) has gotten himself into a tiny spot of trouble, with a sex scandal that includes at least twenty-two different Hong Kong pop singers and actresses, including Asian-American actress Maggie Q. According to The Canadian Press, Chen took several photos of himself and his various conquests while they engaged in a number of sexual acts.
I know what you’re thinking, “Damn, that man’s a pimp!!” Believe me, I felt the same way initially. Unfortunately, Chen proved to not be nearly as smart as most dudes who have achieved this level of pimping. Having stored the photos of his sexual escapades on his laptop, he eventually took said laptop to a computer repair store. Lo and behold, the pictures found their way onto the internet!!
Now, here in the states, celebrities will endure a fair bit of embarassment when situations like this come to light. But rarely do they cause any real damage to a star’s career. Hell, careers are being BUILT on sex tape scandals, nowadays! But apparently things are very different in the Honk Kong entertainment industry, and Chen’s actions may be severely damaging for him and many of the involved parties.
The way I see it, though, Chen was pretty much raised here in North American anyway, being a native of Vancouver. And he’s already appeared in films such as The Grudge 2. If necessary, I say he should just cut his losses and head on home. And a word of advice: flash drives. . . .invest in some, stupid!!

Did you guys just here about this? This has been news in Hong Kong and Singapore for weeks. WEEKS!
I’m tired of this thing already (though I hadn’t heard the Maggie Q thing). There’s a big crackdown on the mainland for downloading and spreading the images, but thus far, HKers are still downloading the images rampantly, and there was recently an edict saying it was totally legal to print the nude photographs in newspapers as long as you blurred the faces.
So yeah, I’m expecting the Communist tanks to roll into Central pretty soon.

I saw a few of these and they were pretty explicit! I didn’t recognize any of the actresses — but that’s only because I don’t really know any HK actresses, not because they were grainy and unidentifiable. Sadly for these young ladies they were clear as day. I wonder what the equivalent of this happening in Hollywood would be? Are these C-listers, or what? Like who is a comparable singer/actress?

There’s a pretty good round-up here: http://alvinology.wordpress.com/2008/02/17/edison-chen-sex-photos-scandal-the-7-victims/
Cecilia Cheung is a pretty huge movie star. She’s like, I don’t know, Angelina Jolie, or somebody like that, as far as fame goes. She’s had about thirty movies since she started in ‘99 (check out One Nite in Mong Kok, as it’s awesome).
Bobo Chan used to be big, but she’s retired now. Maybe she’s a B-lister now? I’d never heard of her before.
Gillian Chung is also pretty big here, though I’ve never seen anything with her or heard any of her music.
Everybody else is probably a C-lister, probably on the level with Maggie Q, or below (especially that Miss Chinese girl). It’s funny to read western reports of this on the net (including this one) that only mention Maggie Q as if she were the most famous of the bunch. That’s wrong and super funny, but I guess it’s the only person most westerners would know (she was pretty awesome in Live Free or Die Hard).

Adan: Thanks for the info & link. But what I really want to know is, if this was such old news to you — why didn’t you tell us about it before KK stumbled across it =P I mean what’s the point of having Friends of PCS over there if not to keep us posted on this stuff, right?
