Back when DOOM released the remix of “Gazillion Ear”, courtesy of Thom Yorke from Radiohead, I was certainly caught off-guard. But dammit if it didn’t grab me eventually. It was moody and understated, and the sped-up delivery from DOOM was an inspired touch. Now, the two have come teogether, yet again, with the help of Radiohead bandmate, Johnny Greenwood, for “Retarded Fren”. The track has a nice ominous thump to it, and DOOM still comes through with the cryptic, tongue-twisting lyrics, even if the delivery comes off a bit lethargic. DOOM had hinted to more “post-Gazillion Ear” collabs with Yorke, even implying that a full album could be the end result. Then again, we’re still waiting for the album he was supposed to do with Ghostface Killah.
