DMC @ NYCC!!

Posted by: Rich Watson on February 10, 2009 at 2:42 pm

You don’t understand. I wanted to be DMC growing up. One of the very first records my father ever bought for me was Run DMC’s King of Rock. I played it and played it and played it. I begged my father to buy me a Kangol hat so I could look like DMC – and with the glasses, it wasn’t hard.

Run DMC were among my greatest musical heroes growing up. People make fun of the movie Krush Groove, but you gotta understand, back then, when hip hop was still very young and fresh, to see guys like Run DMC and Kurtis Blow and the Fat Boys and Sheila E on the big screen was mind-blowing. I drifted away from hip hop in high school and got more into rock, but I never forgot my love of the jams that these three guys from my hometown, Queens, New York, dropped that changed the world.

So now when you tell me that DMC is not only a huge comic book fan (he grew up with Marvel, just like me!), but that he’s gonna make a comic of his own later this year (with Adam Wallenta, who helped put together the Public Enemy comic)… well, this is like Christmas, New Year’s Eve and the Fourth of July all in one.

I can’t begin to tell you how much this means to me. I don’t even care about quality (I honestly didn’t think the PE comic was all that great) – just knowing that one of my musical heroes is a comics fan and wants to make comics of his own puts a great big smile on my face.

Roll to the rock rock to the roll

DMC stands for devastating mike control

You can’t touch me with a ten-foot pole

And I even made the devil sell me his soul

That’s what it’s all about, yo!

I love hearing your excitement in this post. Thanks for keeping us updated with the news from NYCC – this bit of info is definitely a high point (and hearing that Tyler “not a trekkie” Perry has a part in the new film – probably the lowest).

If it’s any consolation, Perry will not be in drag. :-D

I used to always name my Mage characters “DMC – Devastating Magic Control” when I played RPG games lol

Anyway, just wanted to share this — the Comic Book Club guys got to do a fun video interview with DMC at NYCC for Newsarama:

This is great news indeed. Can’t wait for this to come out, DMC seems so excited about it. I actually liked the P.E. book a lot. It wasn’t perfect but it gets better with each issue and I think if they continue it it will get even better. Gotta give these things time to grow. The first Marvel and DC books weren’t all that looking back either. P.E. has a trade coming I am looking forward to and hopefully more adventures. Hopefully people support it because if they don’t we may not see any more.
