Humorists including New Yorker Cartoonists,
Daily Show Writers and Oliphant
join academics for a serious look at humor.
The New Yorker’s cartoon editor Bob Mankoff will lead a panel of experts and comedy practitioners Monday, March 10 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on “The Serious Stuff about Humor – What is It? Why is It?” at the Michigan Theater. Joining Mankoff will be syndicated political cartoonist Patrick Oliphant, New Yorker cartoonist Matt Diffee, “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” comedy writers Kevin Bleyer and Tim Carvell, “Mama’s Boyz” cartoonist Jerry Craft and Philadelphia Daily News political cartoonist Signe Wilkinson.
Experts include University of Michigan professor of psychology Richard Lewis, College of William and Mary religion professor John Morreall, University of Western Ontario clinical psychologist Rod Martin, Boston College English professor and columnist, Paul Lewis and independent psychologist and humor researcher, Michael Apter.
