SEATTLE, WA (November 8, 2011) - After a brief hiatus, Deniath (deniath.com), a members-only flash sale site for pop-culture and geek collectibles and merchandise has relaunched, announcing new brand partnerships, a big promotional sweepstakes and a revamped blog.

Launched in December 2010, Deniath is a members-only site, offering 72-hour deals on a variety of geek products and services including toys, event deals, board games, video-game related products, comics, and other pop-culture collectibles. CEO and Co-Founder, Wade Sugiyama explains, “We intend to produce the ultimate geek experience by feeding member’s geek obsessions and helping them discover new ones. We believe that our exclusive, 3-day deals are merely the first step in that process.”

Access to Deniath and their 72-hour deals is free, however, it’s only available to Deniath members. Sugiyama added, “And while membership is exclusive, it isn’t designed to keep fans and geeks excluded. There are a number of ways to become a Deniath member. The quickest and easiest way is to be invited by an existing member. If you can’t find a current member, invite requests are also available on the site, which can take a few days.”

On November 14th, 2011 at 9am PST, Deniath deals will commence and members will be able to start their geek holiday shopping. After previously successful partnerships with Funko, ZipZip, and artists Stephen Silver and David Colman, Deniath’s Fall lineup includes exciting new partnerships with companies like Kotobukiya, Big Bad Toy Store, and artist Imps and Monsters. “We are extremely excited about the brands that we’ve partnered with, and we can’t wait for our members to see the deals we have in store for them.”

Starting today, as part of the relaunch, Deniath has partnered with Newsarama.com, the #1 Comic News Source, to host a sweepstakes offering an enormous assortment of prizes. “Newsarama has their hands on the pulse on the comic book community and we’re extremely enthusiastic about collectively organizing a sweepstakes of this size and magnitude.”

The Deniath Blog has also been revamped, providing interviews, news, and more geek content for all customers. “The blog is an integral piece of the Deniath experience,” added Sugiyama, “and we hope our members enjoy the additional content and deeper look into what Deniath is all about.”

“Deniath will continue to evolve,” according to Sugiyama, “with our hopes being that not only will we offer an exciting, new shopping experience specifically tailored for the geek community, but also that we will bring like-minded fans together in a community where they can share their obsessions. November 14th can’t come soon enough!”

In yet another New York Comic Con Artist Alley interview, we caught up with the creative team behind the upcoming miniseries, A.K.A.

It is a pretty damn great time to be a comic book fan.

There’s just a lot of really great things going on and more ways than ever to get at them.

Next year, we comic book fans will be treated not only to the final installment of director Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy but we’ll also see a new, NEW Superman rebooting from Zack Snyder of 300/Watchmen/Sucker Punch fame.

Now, I may be in the minority but I actually liked his Watchmen and that movie showed me he just may have the chops to pull off another new, NEW Superman reboot. Although, Amy Adams as Lois Lane? Let me check my heart.

(pause)

Nope. Still not doing it for me.

Next year also sees The Avengers… as a major motion picture.

Let’s look at those words.

The Avengers… as a MAJOR MOTION PICTURE!

Not with scrub actors and B-movie directors but with box-office draws and actual actors who seem to like playing superheroes and a director practically born to do this job. Now, there was a time when the idea of an Avengers motion picture was mostly a dream as the cost of it would’ve been massively prohibitive. Now, the technology has caught up to the wonder Avengers creator Jack Kirby put upon the comics page and here we are. We’re all looking forward to seeing The Avengers on the big screen. This is a thing that is happening, people.

If that doesn’t get you excited, I suggest there’s something wrong you and I don’t wanna know you.

(I kid. I kid.)

No, seriously, what the hell is wrong with you?

Also, the local comics shop has more to offer than ever. More books in more genres than ever before; with the digital realm offering new ways in which to view our favorite hobby. As a dyed-in-the-wool comics fan, I mourn that our children will never know the sheer pleasure of discovery in picking up a comic book off of a local drug store spinner rack or from finding DC Comics, as I did, while standing in grocery store checkouts that had the late, lamented DC Digests. These things were awesome. They were $1 books that essentially allowed young readers a chance to sample the best the DC Universe had to offer. In any given book, you were treated to stories of World War I flying aces (Enemy Ace) or teenaged super-heroes 1,000 years in the future (The Legion of Super-Heroes) or simply enough, a Superman story. The digests were perfect. They were practically designed to fit in a child’s hand, having multiple stories that truly made the young reader want to know more about the characters contained within its pages. It felt like a superhero safari and all for the cost of a dollar.

Here it is some thirty years later and there’s still nothing like it.

I truly wish there were.

Well, if comics truly wanted to foster an environment for new readers, there would be but that friends, that just may be a whole new topic for yet another Gateway.

Don’t ask me why, but it’s always surprising to meet someone who’s never been to New York before. It just seems like one of those place everyone should have already visited at least once in their lifetime. But as it happens, Image writer Kurtis Wiebe found himself in NYC for the first time this past weekend, and we took a few minutes to talk about his book, Green Wake, and some other projects he’s got going on in the coming months.

One of the high points of the New York Comic Con was catching up with Jamar Nichols. Writer, illustrator, and one of the hosts of the Comic Book Diner podcast, Mr. Nichols has always been a great guy to chat with.

The New York Comic Con found its way back to the Javits Center this past weekend, and it was nice to see that it’s still the chaotic zoo of a convention that it’s always been!

Mimoco and Cosmic Debris introduce two new Emily the Strange MIMOBOT® USB flash drive designs at New York Comic Con 2011

(New York, NY- October 13, 2011) – Mimoco (www.mimoco.com), makers of the MIMOBOT® line of designer USB flash drives, and iconic teen brand with attitude, Emily the Strange, have teamed up to introduce a co-branded Emily the Strange MIMOBOT series. Featuring two striking designs, “People Are Strange” and “Save Yourself”, the co-branded MIMOBOT® drives are available in capacities up to 64GB. The drives also come preloaded with Mimoco’s bonus Mimory™ digital media suite which includes an Emily the Strange ebook, and MimoDesk™ desktop personalization with wallpapers, icons, and avatars. The new Emily the Strange designs will be showcased and available for purchase at Mimoco’s New York Comic Con booth #775.

Created in 1993 by artist Rob Reger, Emily the Strange has since become an internationally renowned icon for individualism, determination, and do-it-yourself style. The MIMOBOT® x Emily the Strange designs draw from two of the brand’s most iconic images of self-empowerment:

“People Are Strange”: Emily the Strange gets it. And you get it, too. The Emily the Strange “People Are Strange” MIMOBOT boasts a groovy, psychedelic style reminiscent of a great concert poster. Emily’s signature deadpan expression stares out from the MIMOBOT, daring anyone who tries to tangle with your data. The “People Are Strange” MIMOBOT stores your music, photos, and documents but it’s also a statement that you carry with you always. People ARE strange, and that’s cool.

“Save Yourself”: The Emily the Strange “Save Yourself” MIMOBOT shows Emily as a masked crusader for self-empowerment. Don’t sit around waiting for someone else to help you: save yourself. Emily’s cape-wearing, injustice-fighting MIMOBOT will keep your data safe, transporting your music, photos, and documents. And maybe carrying it around will make you feel a little like a superhero too.

“Our MIMOBOT line of designer USB flash drives has always been all about self-expression and bringing personal design to tech devices. It’s a perfect fit with Emily the Strange, a character who is nothing if not herself,” says CEO and all around tech and design enthusiast, Evan Blaustein.

The Emily the Strange MIMOBOT® series is now available for purchase at Mimoco.com.
