Okay, I promised you some stuff last week and basically what happened was this: I just got lazy. I have a day job that has nothing to do with comics, as you know, and last week was a particularly stressful and tiring one. I really didn’t feel like doing any “heavy” writing and by the time the weekend came, all I wanted to do was go see Spider-Man 3 and veg out. (Good but flawed. I think 2 is the best of the series overall.) So there you have it. Sorry about that.
About the Kids Comic Con: I got there late because of the Yankees-Red Sox game tying up the subway, but from what I did see of the show it was pretty good. It was all in one room in a building on the Bronx Community College campus (albeit one far, far away from the subway). I’m told local media was there earlier. I’m also told the show did fairly good business for a first-timer. And I saw plenty of families – parents and little kids. And that’s the most important part. Alex Simmons was having a good time from what I saw and so was everyone else. The only real complaint I have is that I wish it were closer to public transportation, but otherwise I’d call the KCC a winner. Congrats to Alex and all involved.
The next issue of UVC will include articles on Kyle Baker (by me), Kevin Grevioux, Mario Gully, and a new indy creator named Ashley Woods (not to be confused with Ashley Wood). We’ll have previews of upcoming comics, including Stormbreakers #1. We’ve got new features that I think you’ll like, in addition to the usual news, photos, Brandon Easton’s column – in short, the next issue is gonna be BIGGER. That’s right, BIGGER than the first.
Not much else to talk about today except for this interview of Aya writer Marguerite Abouet. (Thanks to Pam for the link.)
